Scott Slabaugh


My engineering experience is almost exclusively within the plastics industry involving manufacturing and project management roles while supporting and providing input in Product Development and R&D projects. With over 6 years of educational experience and combined work experience over 3 years focused in plastics and plastics processing/molding,  my experience and strength is within Injection Molding and Insert Injection Molding processes of various thermoplastics & elastomers.  However I also am very adept and confident in other polymer processing techniques such as extrusion and blow molding.  

With the path of my career encompassing exposure of manufacturing environments from six different organizations, I have the advantage of  benchmarking current manufacturing techniques devised by various engineering capacities.  This in combination with my research experience from my Engineering Masters provides me with the unique perspective to visualize concepts, design from conceptualization, and develop these concepts for manufacturing. 

With my experience and education strongly focused around lean manufacturing concepts and contributing factors of waste I have executed many projects that improve productivity and quality.Project examples include process reengineer events to eliminate waste and reduce costs, redesign equipment to improve yields, and redefine process variables to reduce scrap and improve quality.

Current experiences are within the medical device industry as a Manufacturing Engineer focused on plastics processing and support processes for fluid management and venous access catheter products. Through my research experience during my MSE and my validation experience within the medical device industry I have extensive experience in identifying critical parameters, executing DOEs, and statistically analyzing the results to determine the affects of the process on product specifications.  With a strong working knowledge of DOE designs, executions, and evaluations I feel that I can confidently contribute to an organization.  This sustains a high level of comfort with statistically analyzing and controlling the manufacturing process.

I feel I have obtained strong communication skills and enjoy working within teams towards the same objective.I also feel very comfortable with leading and supporting roles within teams and can be effective at all levels.  I have always had a high level of passion for engineering and manufacturing and think my accomplishments of both work experience and education displays my drive, while validating my passion and satisfaction for my career choice.  My future Interests are remaining within the medical device industry but focusing my engineering talents earlier in the product life cycle such as a product engineer, R&D engineer, or project/product manager.  However, I am also interested and intrigued with other areas of engineering and management within the plastics industry that could allow me to make an impact.

Strategically executed projects that align with the company’s mission and vision, while supporting the needs of manufacturing. Supported and extended the effectiveness of all product development and R&D projects by providing design for manufacturing input.
