Graduate Trainee - Engineering

Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM)
  • Fundamental Skills Training - training at each of TSAM's major plants to grasp the concepts and procedures of each plant (i.e. logistics, assembly, weld and chassis plant).
  • Online training on the IMV (Hilux and Fortuner) Assembly Line - to grasp the fundamental concepts of building a vehicle.
  • Squad Kaizen Project in the TSAM Press Plant - working in a team with Graduates from other disciplines to improve TSAM's 5 KPI's (i.e. Safety, Quality, Productivity, Cost and Human Resource Development).
  • Jishuken Project in the TSAM Press Plant - working in a team implement a Kanban System a major production line in the Press Plant. Implementing this system consists of stabilizing the production line by removing abnormalities, and designing a "Pattern Production" system for the line to work from.

Industrial Engineering Trainee

Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM)
  • SHE (Safety, Health and Environment) department – process improvements (based on Safety, 4S, Quality and Cycle Time). Presentations to TSAM Engineers to implement recommendations.
  • SHE department – assisted in Ergonomics pre-placement screening for Quantum CKD (Complete Knock Down) project – i.e. finding the right Team Member for the job based on height, weight, strengths, weaknesses, medical history, etc.
  • Hilux/Fortuner Trim Line – Line improvement project based on 4S, Quality, Ergonomics, Safety and Cycle Time reduction. Ergonomic assessment performed on entire line.
  • Hilux Rear Axle Line – Line improvement project based on 4S, Quality, Ergonomics, Safety and Cycle Time reduction. Ergonomic assessment performed on entire line.
  • Hino Plant, Rear Axle Process – Process improvement based on Cycle Time reduction, Ergonomics and Safety.
  • Quantum CKD project start up – i.e. involved in training, implementing and documenting procedures and setting up the production line.
  • Quantum CKD project support – involved in the design, manufacture and implementation of workstations for the production line; providing assistance to Team Members on line.
  • Quantum CKD project reports – defect reports, cycle time reports, success charts, team member competency reports, etc.
  • Quantum CKD volume up activity – takt down activity based on increased volume (i.e. reduction of Cycle Time using line balancing and kaizen activities) for production line.
  • Toyota Chassis Plant - Engineering documents for 640A (Hilux/Fortuner) project.
