Skills

Skills

Spanish

I am currently studying Spanish and hope to continue to practice it as I believe knowledge of another language is very important especially in the healthcare profession.

Providing Care to Others

I have gained experience in providing care to others through working in a doctor's office for a few years and attending nursing school.  I still use this skill and hope to continue to use it throughout my career and life.

Initial Goals

As a student in the Food and Nutrition Program at The University of Alabama, I strive to succeed in all of my classes, maintain a high GPA, and graduate with honors. I will also apply to the Coordinated Program in Dietetics at The University of Alabama and hope to be accepted.  Another aim of mine is to Study Abroad because I believe it is very important to learn about various cultures and their ways of living.  Upon graduation, I hope to pass the licensure exam to become a registered dietitian and serve my community, both in and outside my work.

Long-Term Goals

After I graduate from The University of Alabama with a Bachelor's of Science in the major of Food and Nutrition, I aim to become a registered dietitian and practice in the field for many years.  I will probably start out in clinical practice and take continuing education courses in performance nutrition, so hopefully one day I can practice as a performance dietitian.  Ideally I would love to work with a collegiate university's athletic program.

Work Philosophy

As the field of dietetics is rising within the healthcare profession, I wish to become a registered dietitian and inform people how different nutrients impact them in more ways than they think.  My focus is on performance nutrition and how nutrition truly impacts how individuals feel and what ability they perform at.  I have always believed that exercise and nutrition go hand-in-hand and I strive to help people's nutritional and performance statuses.

Since I have moved to Tuscaloosa in August 2011, I have become involved with The University of Alabama's organization Project Health and I am helping organize the Student Health Fair to be held in February, 2012.  Back home in Huntsville, AL, I donated blood frequently at my local Red Cross and have continued doing so here in Tuscaloosa.  In Huntsville, I also helped put  together two golf tournaments to help raise money for the speech and hearing impaired, both locally and nationally, and I read to speech and hearing impaired students at local elementary schools.  In 2009 and 2010, I also assisted with a bike trip going from Huntsville to Mobile, AL benefitting the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
