About Sanjiv Narayan Abbott

After earning a medical degree and a master of computer science in software engineering from the University of Birmingham, Dr. Narayan continued at the school, earning his research doctorate in neuroscience. He has completed a research fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles, and fellowships at Harvard University and Washington University School of Medicine, as well as a residency in internal medicine at Mount Auburn Hospital. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Royal College of Physicians of London.

An accomplished physician with several decades of research experience, Dr. Sanjiv Narayan recently sold Topera, his electrophysiology technology development startup, to Abbott Laboratories. Dr. Sanjiv Narayan currently serves as director of the atrial fibrillation and electrophysiology research programs at Stanford University, where he is working to develop a treatment center for patients with complex clinical problems.

Apart from his medical career, Dr. Narayan started the Sujata and Sanjiv Narayan Foundation, whose mission promotes improved health care through the sponsorship of research grants for individuals seeking mathematical or bioengineering solutions to medical problems. In his free time, he enjoys cycling, swimming, and spending time with his family.
