Owner at Metrophonic Music Ltd
My musical journey over the past twelve years has taken me from writing songs in my friend's garage, to establishing myself as a successful, professional, cross-genre songwriter. I wrote a platinum selling number 1 single for Olly Murs and have written songs on multiple number 1 albums. I work in England and travel to New York and LA to collaborate with the world's most eminent artists and producers. From releasing three gold records with my own band, to being personally requested by Enrique Iglesias fly to Miami to write for his latest album, I am constantly aiming to perfect my craft.
I come from a family of teachers. My brother is an English Lecturer at Kent University and a celebrated novelist and my grandfather is Professor Emeritus at Princeton University. My sister is Head of Media and Film studies at George Green's School on the Isle of Dogs where I regularly volunteer to teach and share my experiences. It's important for me to to teach aspiring songwriters to nurture their natural songwriting voice and not to allow established techniques to drown it out. It has taken ten years of growth for me to understand this. Despite having presented both Top of the Pops and CDUK, my aptitude for talking to a crowd wasn't truly tested until I began volunteering at the school.
B-Unique records have been my loyal publisher for the entirety of my career in music. With their support I made the leap to operating as a freelance songwriter in 2013. Highlights of co-writes from this period thus far include;
My years at Metrophonic were integral work experience for me. I learnt songwriting secrets by working alongside some of the world's most successful songwriters. Although a chapter of development for me, I nonetheless coproduced the entire Lucy Spraggan album Join The Club, and cowrote a number of songs including;
As the frontman and main songwriter for the Ordinary Boys I was lucky enough to tour the world, play Top of the Pops five times, perform on Jools Holland and Blue Peter, support my heroes from Morrissey to the Who and tour the UK extensively. Our debut album reached number one in Japan where we still perform. Our most successful single 'Boys Will Be Boys' which reached number 2 in the UK chart was featured in the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie.
To complement my working experience making music using Logic and Pro Tools, in 2010 I furthered my knowledge with a brief course at the London School of Sound.
Studying Music and Visual Arts taught me how to use Cubase, initially introducing me to making music digitally, but more importantly it retaught me music from a more abstract, less academic angle. This opened up my understanding of composition and taught me to reapply my classical training to contemporary popular music.
I graduated school with eleven GCSEs and earned A Levels in English, Music and Drama.
