Xi'An Siyuan University is a private university located in the outskirts of Xi'An China. The school boasts over 25,000 students and has a strong international department.

Operations Manager

Escar Entertainment

Escar entertainmet is an events specialist with core operations in the summer as concessionaires for the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto. The company also offers event planning and operating for a range of activities from corporate picnics to school fairs.

Responsibilities and accomplishments

- Originally hired at an entry level position, I was quickly promoted to purchasing manager then operations manager. 

- Responsibilities include the forecasting, purchasing, storing, distributing, controlling and managing an inventory of over 250 products for 16 games, 18 food stands, 3 bars, 3 restaurants, and supervision of more than 200 employees.

-The position requires several months of preparation for the CNE and 18 consecutive 18 – 20 hr working days of intense monitoring and distribution of products. (Daily turnover)

-Using VBA and SQL, I created and implemented a database entry and management system to ensure accurate control of inventory. The system enabled more accurate forecasting and monitoring of inventory to enable higher inventory turnover, lower overhead through reduced storage space (50% reduction), and facilitated the procurement process through standardized forms to be created when items reached re-order levels.

- Through tight control and accurate forecasting, cost savings of up to 20% were achieved through various business units of the company.

Outside Processing Control Coordinator

Stelco Inc

Stelco was one of the largest steel making plants in Canada, with over 6,000 employees and three major plants. When applying for the position, Stelco had declared bankruptcy and I was looking to gain valuable experience in crisis management. Throughout the internship, I was privy to the inner workings of a company trying to divest various business units and recoup losses for its investors. Unfortunately, the company did not survive and had to shut down shortly after my internship ended.

Responsibilities and accomplishments

-12 month internship position while studying third year finance.

-Position included the control and distribution of steel through 8 outside processors.

-Personally and solely responsible for an average weekly flow of over $2 million, or over 90,000 tons of steel.

-I was an integral part of the team to create, develop and process the steel used in the new Hummer (H2), with primary contribution being the selection of a capable processor and the logistics of the project.

- I was also on the team responsible for creating and implementing an object oriented information system used by the 6,000 employees.

Primerica is a financial advisory company, targeting the investment portfolios of middle age, middle income families. The main product sold is term insurance coupled with mutual fund investments to provide the dependents of the families with a secure future and save more for retirement (compared to universal life insurance)

Responsibilities and accomplishments

- Locate and advise customers regarding the benefits of term insurance + mutual fund savings against alternative means of investment.

- In 9 months, over 50 clients invested or transferred part of their portfolio to a customized investment plan.

- Although I have not worked for Primerica for over 7 years, I am still advising many of these clients on their portfolio and savings decisions.
