Samantha Hilsenrod is an aspiring communications and public relations professional enrolled at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is expecting to graduate with her Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Spanish, and she is already conversant in Spanish. Ms. Hilsenrod is the founder of the newest sorority at Tulane University, Phi Mu, where she serves on the Fraternity Relations Committee. She has been financing her education and covering her living expenses while simultaneously challenging her considerable talents at managing and interacting with people at the busy Bourbon Cowboy bar in New Orleans, a landmark establishment that is always buzzing with patrons, especially during such landmark events as the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Mardi Gras. Samantha Hilsenrod has already shown her aptitude for working in a high-energy public contact professional environment, having interned for a busy Westbury, New York, boutique public relations firm and having previously worked for Gino’s of Long Beach restaurant in Long Beach, New York, where the wait for a table during the peak summer season could exceed a full hour. Samantha Hilsenrod maintains a 3.7 GPA while working, and she currently serves as an intern for the Gulf Restoration Network, an environmental advocacy group operating at the grassroots level, in the wake of the Gulf Coast oil spill disaster. Ms. Hilsenrod helps guide public relations and educational initiatives, has worked a number of promotional events for the organization, and she has acted as the point person in developing connections to both local donors and businesses to secure donations for the Gulf Restoration Network. She recently completed a summer internship with Ariel Publicity and Cyber PR, LLC of New York City, a public relations firm serving independent artists. Ms. Hilsenrod was responsible for increasing the Internet presence of the firm’s clients on social networking websites, implementing cyber public relations campaigns, creating virtual press kits for clients, and updating the firm’s complex electronic virtual press kit delivery system.
