About Sam Gerson MD

Active in emergency medicine on a domestic as well as an international scale, Samuel “Sam” Gerson, MD, has treated patients in a wide variety of settings. He most recently served as an attending physician at the UC San Diego Medical Center, also completing a fellowship in diving and hyperbaric medicine. Board-certified in this specialty as well as in emergency medicine, Sam Gerson, MD, performed his emergency care residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital. There, he distinguished himself as the August 2010 Employee of the Month.

During his residency, Dr. Samuel Gerson traveled to both the Dominican Republic and Haiti to share his specialized expertise. An instructor of medical personnel in the Dominican Republic, he directed triage at Harvard Health Initiative's field hospital in Fond Parisien, treating those affected by the then-recent earthquake. His work in these areas has inspired his writings and presentations on emergency care in under-resourced settings. Also a professional SCUBA instructor and experienced diver, Dr. Gerson has participated in research into the potential therapeutic value of marine life and the use of hyperbaric oxygen for patients with carbon monoxide poisoning.
