Salwa Mohd

Health Care assistant at Bradford Royal Infirmary, UK

I have gained the required qualifications for the Bradford University Health , Wellbeing and Social Care Course while studying in Jordan. I have gained seven GCSE’s including Maths and English level two, Science equivalent to GCSE grad c and a 3 years college Diploma course in Nursing and Midwifery which was taught in English, included Biology, and is equivalent to NVQ Level 3 as confirmed by UK Naric. The Diploma was a three year programme included one year common foundation programme. The second and third years focused on the midwifery. The practice worked both in community and hospital environments and required a high level of communication skills, with many diverse backgrounds and cultures. Since moving to England (I have challenged myself to gain UK higher qualifications). I have undertaken additional qualifications in literacy level 2, Numeracy GCSE and a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care with the University of Bradford with the intention of pursuing a career in Nursing. I enjoyed my course as in (FDHSC) as I have developed new skills including: communication, planning and time management, teamwork and working on my own initiative. I believe that this foundation degree has better prepared me for higher study at degree level. I enjoyed my work placement in health and social care as it developed my skill with different ages of people from childhood ,through to the elderly ( vulnerable people) after having CRB checked.

Health Care assistant

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust
I currently work as a Health Care Assistant, at both Bradford Royal Infirmary and ST Luke’s Hospital, which has provided me with the necessaries knowledge , experience and skills to enable me to progress further into senior support roles, such as a Nurse. I have undertaken training and developed an awareness of health and safety including moving and handling patents so as not to cause discomfort or injury to either the patient or myself. In addition, the Conflict Resolution training, aims to enable me to consolidate understanding of conflict resolution. I intend to update my skills and training by undertaking the MEWS training for how to do observation the vital signs of the patient body health, infection control, blood tract, BM test and CPR. I believe that working in a hospital and looking after people who are unwell or need help to get better. So I worked out that the best job for me would be as a Health work professional. To confirm that this is the correct career path for me I set my sight on becoming a health care assistant). I enjoy and find it rewarding being in hospital looking after a wide range of people from different backgrounds and ages who are in need of support and care. I am also aware and sensitive to the needs of relatives and family. I believe that the best job for me would be in caring professions as a Nurse, as this is where my current skills and interests are /using hands in a skill way.
