When Salah Shakir, DBA, began work as the Director of Information Technology (IT) Services at Shawnee Community College in 1991, the job title was relatively new, as was an understanding of the elements that comprised the job. The same restructuring saw the networking of the college’s computers into a LAN as well as the addition of 70 new PCs.Salah Shakir’s training is well suited for his choice of a career providing IT expertise in an academic environment. He holds Associate and Bachelor’s degrees in computer sciences and technologies, as well as a Master of Education in Learning and Technology. Shakir recently rounded out his list of academic credentials by earning his Doctor of Business Administration. The most significant component of Salah Shakir’s career to date is his 14 years at Rend Lake College, located in the south-central Illinois village of Ina. He served the college in a number of positions, including Vice President of Technology and Student Services, in which he assumed leadership of all IT functions at the college, responsibility for all student services, and development of IT-related curricula.
