Web Design / Multimedia

Web Freelancer

Services: My freelance work has revolved around website design and development, music production, image editing, and related services. I am an advanced HTML/CSS programmer with experience designing websites since 2002—including custom design, HTML5, XHTML, PHP, jQuery, mobile design, responsive design, semantic markup, WordPress theme design, performance optimization, social media integration, digital marketing, and analytics. I am well-versed in Photoshop editing and in digital audio recording/mixing/mastering.

Clients: I've done editing and technical work for the educational service, Ed-Tech Creations. I've mixed and mastered audio for indie rock bands including The Voxys. I've produced websites for musicians, photographers, make-up artists, and small businesses. I currently manage five client websites on the back-end, and provide services for the indie record label, Join Or Die Records, which include continued design and management of their digital storefront. I've consulted as a strategist sharing ideas on UX, social media, and communication.

Startups: I write about tech-driven music culture and the music industry on virtualmusic.tv (which I've designed and developed since 2009). I've promoted VM mainly via social media—with zero advertising budget. Another project, launched in December 2010, is the photoblog amplifiedny.com, which drew 5k+ visits in its first month and continues to have an active Flickr group. In 2011, I started work on WordPress framework for responsive design (responsetheme.com) and a related jQuery plugin (responsejs.com) both slated for a release in the fall.

Study Abroad

University of Wollongong

Through the study abroad program I was able to take courses in Australia that fulfilled requirements towards my engineering degree. Being 10,000 miles from home, I gained greater independence, open-mindedness, and enhanced people skills.  I still keep in touch with friends that I made there.

I'm actively train in mixed martial arts and have a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

1997 - 2002

B.S. Engineering

University of Colorado at Boulder

During my engineering training at CU, I excelled in my calculus and physics courses, and I learned how to apply essential problem-solving skills to complex engineering situations. I learned fundamental principles that all engineers possess, and I can effectively work objectively, independently, and in a team situation. As I moved along in my studies, my favorite courses involved thermodynamics and energy.  I enjoyed these subjects the most because I'm a proponent of creating efficient, renewable energy—to be used in our transportation, architecture, and infrastructure. Looking back, perhaps the most valuable skill that I learned through college was the ability to teach myself, and I am confident in my ability to learn anything.
