General management of all Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) issues for a primary aluminium smelter holding ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications and operating 24/7 with 650 direct employees and 300 permanent subcontractors.

Responsibility for the relations with the administrative authorities (local government representations, environmental police, labour inspection, etc.), communities (municipalities, Liaison Committees, NGOs, etc.), employee representatives (health & working conditions commission) and subcontractors.

Rolling-out of the Rio Tinto policies and programmes ; animation of the plant EHS network ; operational EHS involvement (incident and accident management ; Industrial Hygiene programme ; environmental monitoring programme ; accident prevention ; shop-floor audits ; etc.) ; management of the ISO and OHSAS certifications ; assistance to operations ; etc.

Member of the plant’s Executive Committee. Management of 6 direct reports and 12 functional reports.

Management of the plant’s Continuous Improvement (CI) program: roll-out of Alcan policies and programs; CI training management (including Black Belt and Green Belt) ; CI portfolio management (minimum 50 projects ahead, representing an EVA potential of 2,5 M€) ; project execution follow-up (minimum 2,4 M€ EVA per year) ; reporting and communication.

Management of the plant’s Total Quality program: coordination of the Total Quality Management System; management of the internal and external audit programs.

Management of all environment, health and safety (EHS) issues for the design, construction and operation of a greenfield aluminium smelter to be built in South Africa (investment: 2,200 M€): interface with South African authorities and project investors; coordination of plant policies and programs; management impact studies and permits; risk analyses (equipment and operations); insurance program; medical service (operational 24/7); training and audits; monitoring programs; prevention plans; ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications; etc.

Creation and management of the EHS Department: 7 direct reports, based in France and South Africa. Responsible for the design and implementation of an EHS Information System (using SAP), to be used ultimately by all the Group’s aluminium smelters.
