Saatchi & Saatchi / Old Shanghai

As the senior art director my main responsibilities were Mitsubishi and Tempest Car Hire - handling all new concept briefs, presentations, TV and photo shoots and helping the CD to oversee the rest of the work in the studio.

Other brands at Old Shanghai - Spekko Rice, Mercedes After Sales, Fuso trucks, Freightliner and Michael De Broglio Attorneys.

I joined new start up agency Sugar as head of art direction and design. In the short time i have been here we have won the Jockey account, Fry's Vegetarian BTL account and the Hooters account.

My role is to oversee the creative work happening in the studio, work on all new pitch briefs and implement systems that make the studio run more effectively.

I freelanced between Cape Town and Johannesburg. In Cape Town i worked on a pitch for Tata, at new start up agency Big Wednesday, which we won. (www.bigwednesday.co.za)

I freelanced at JET, Evoke, Baber Smith and Inferno on various briefs and in various roles. Jobs varied from ABL concepts, art direction to graphic design, events, illustration, microsites for promotions and drawing up black and whites for presentations to clients. Clients worked on were American Express, Adidas, Jamesons, Nokia and Unilever.

I started off freelancing at Billington Cartmell for two weeks and ended up staying on for five months.

As an art director i worked on a lot of conceptual briefs for pitches and existing clients such as Moet & Chandon, Lloyds bank, Reckitt Benckiser, Lucozade sport, Freesat, Ribena, Morrisons, Youngs organic beer range and Castrol oil - taking briefs from concept to mac visual and presentation stage.

I worked as part of a through the line creative team across all King James RSVP brands. Including Levi’s, Johnnie Walker, Windhoek Lager, Bell’s Whisky, Cape Union Mart, Parmalat, Hang Ten, Kulula.com and Cube fashion stores - creating captivating promotions, print and unforgettable events.

King James won South Africa’s Ad Focus medium sized agency of the year 2007.

Red and Yellow school of advertising

I completed a 3 year marketing diploma in Art Direction and Graphic Design while Brian Searle-Tripp and Allan Raff were still running the creative side of the school.

Red and Yellow was founded by Ogilvy & Mather Rightford Searle Tripp & Makin, now just called Ogilvy and acted as a feeder school to Ogilvy South Africa. it is now fully independant.

The school offers courses in Marketing, Copywriting, Art Direction and Graphic Design with all students working on live briefs with a chance to present to real clients in a pitch situation.
