"I reported directly to Rose when she was the Department Chair for Software Engineering program and the Web Design and Development program. In the four years that I worked with Rose, she always geared everything she did for the success of the students in the department. She had a high retention rate for students in the program through the use of many different methods for students to be successful."
"She is passionate about sharing her knowledge from industry (her work at IBM) with faculty and students. She is a great leader to faculty as well as students. As a faculty member, Rose would listen to my suggestions about course improvement and project ideas. In addition, she helped me to grow as a faculty member through professional development. Rose is an amazing Department Chair that advocates for faculty and students."
Michelle Pittman, CTE Graphic Design & Layout/Interactive Media teacher

"I was fortunate to get an opportunity to work under the supervision and guidance of Prof. Rose.
Prof. Rose was a Department Chair when I was teaching and I used to report directly to her. I am amazed by her multifaceted personality. She used to handle two departments (Software Engineering and Web Design) so efficiently. Whenever we have interacted, I have always learned from her.
Her passion for student success is contagious and I try to emulate her. There were situations where students had issues and she had spent her time and given insights to make things easier for students. She has given me freedom to design and conduct my courses in the best possible way. She has helped me to improve as an individual and teacher.
She has helped the college to grow the two departments she was heading. She has been very proactive in brainstorming about different ways to grow student retention. She made sure our suggestions were also taken into consideration. As a result of her efforts and innovative ideas, there was substantial departmental growth by growth of student retention rates and increased student focus on their education.
She is great leader who has inspired us to give our best and always put students first. She is a unique asset to any organization."

"In my opinion, Professor Short is a wonderful teacher. She is one of the best instructors I've ever met in my career as a college student. In addition, as a teacher, she possess great work ethics, is very patient, provides the right amount of resources to help her students, and is always very professional when it comes to communicating. All in all, I'm glad I've received the opportunity to share her as an instructor with my fellow classmates ... and on my special list, she is voted "America's Best Teacher Award for a major college/university".
"Professor Short has been an amazing teacher - very easy to talk to, will answer any questions you have without making it difficult, has a fun way of teaching, breaks things down for you in a sufficient and understandable way in which you can comprehend and, still keeps it professional."
"Professor Short, I would like to thank you for being patient with me in class! Your class and your patience has helped me in my present career! If it weren't for your patience or your class, I probably would've failed, which would've led to less opportunity in obtaining my career goal! Again thank you. Your grateful student."
"Thanks Professor Short for all your support and knowledge throughout the course and I appreciate the individual time you put in with us all. This is a class that I will be recommending to everyone that I come in contact with. Thanks again and good luck in all your endeavors and keep doing what you're doing....it's great!"
It is important that minorities and children in disadvantaged communities become technology literate in order to function and compete in a global society. Therefore, I create opportunities to share my knowledge and experiences in software engineering, development, and project management with these children as the next generation of university students. When they see the effect technology can have on society and themselves, it opens a world of possibilities for them.
My speech, "The Importance of Being Technology Literate", was to encourage the African American community to become technology literate. In addition, I emphasized to the students to become producers of technology instead of consumers. This was a part of the National Black Family Technology Awareness Week.

“I worked with Rose Short while she was at IBM. Rose is passionate about community outreach for girls and minorities. I volunteered at several events that Rose coordinated to encourage girls and minorities in K-12 in the fields of science, engineering, and technology. This was an area that Rose was passionate about and it was a joy to work with her on these events. Her enthusiasm was contagious and she worked hard to recruit others that were caring and focused on making science, engineering, and technology exciting for these young children."
"The events were extremely well attended and coordinated due to Rose's efforts. I would gladly work with Rose again on these types of events. My part of her events included bringing search and rescue robots to the events and training children on how to use the robots and conduct a search task. Rose actively interacted with the children by teaching them programming skills and building small robots. She was quite an asset while working in this capacity. I cannot imagine a better person to encourage children into the wonderful world of science, engineering, and technology as a future career choice.”
