Led the creative and technical aspects of Product Development for Fragrance, Fragrance Body Care, Personal Care/Treatment, Beauty and Home Fragrance.The scope of my responsibility increased and included core brands from Bath & Body Works, Victoria’s Secret Beauty, White Barn NY and Slatkin & Co. as well as Specialty Brands inclusive of, but not limited to Dr. Wexler Derm, C.O. Bigelow, Fekkai Hair, Niadyne Skin, Spa Brands, American Girl, and Aroma Therapy.I directed a staff of 31 creative and technical professionals in 3 locations: NY, NJ, and OH.

  • My team developed and launched over 3,000 SKU’s per year.
  • Key liaison between Merchants and Operations.Successfully translated the Client’s vision from ideation to concept to saleable product while adhering to Operational guidelines and SOP’s.
  • Received approval from the Executive Management Team to implement my proposal to revamp the existing Product Development Process.Selected to develop and implement a comprehensive action plan for the introduction and implementation providing training & support to cross-functional teams to raise awareness and achieve a seamless transition.
  • Maintained compliance of all BBW and VSB products per industry guidelines set by IFRA, TSCA, COLIPA, ICMAD, NOP, NSF, REACH, etc.
  • Selected to co-lead a complex multidisciplinary effort to improve the entire “Costing and Commercialization” process.This included establishing realistic targets, aligning cross-functionally and achieving goals.
  • Initiated the Platform Base Program.The objective was to identify and categorize existing, high performing, high quality products that would deliver the client’s vision with unprecedented speed to market and cost efficiencies.
  • Improved store productivity by identifying new business partnerships, opportunities and technologies that support the client’s short and long term Business Growth Plans.As part of the Business Development Team, we introduced technologies such as Niadyne (Wexler), and Zytrel (sustainable anti-bacterial agent); developed partnerships with Miraval and American Girl; and developed partnerships with Harry Slatkin, Ian Ginsberg, etc.
  • Introduced a collaborative, metrics based Vendor Selection process based on a matrix which highlighted strategic vendors strengths and weaknesses providing logical rational for selection.
  • Member of a Task Force charged with establishing a defining “Natural” in today’s market and establishing internal guidelines for developing a "Natural" product. 
  • Instilled a high level of professionalism into the Product Innovations team transforming them into a recognized Center of Excellence. Led the creative and technical aspects of Product Developemtn for Fragrance, Fragrance Body Care, Personal Care, and Treatment for Bath & Body Works.  I directed a technical staff of 11 people.

  • My team successfully developed and launched over 1,000 SKU’s per year.
  • Collaborated with Executive Vice President to create a new model of working with key strategic vendors to advance vendor relationships and heighten productivity.We optimized processes, eliminated non-value added steps and refocused concentration on value-added activities.
  • Proactively embarked upon an ambitious project to revamp the Product Development Cycle delivering a world class end-to-end Product Development Process.This streamlined workflow improved efficiencies and eliminated redundancies delivering a key competitive advantage by balancing speed with quality.
  • Redefined the Product Innovations role and integrated it with the commercialization process by redefining milestone activities, balancing quality and agility with speed and risk.
  • Integrated the Technical Product Innovations team with other internal teams by re-aligning their roles & responsibilities, assigning accountability & ownership to complement and promote cross-functional partnerships.

I directed Global Product Development activities for 3 divisions of Unilever Cosmetics International namely Calvin Klein Cosmetics, Unilever Prestige and European Designer Fragrances.Fragrance Brands included were Obsession, Eternity, cK one/cK be, Crave, Contradiction, Moment, Nautica, Vera Wang and BCBG Max Azria, Karl Lagerfeld, Chloe, Cerruti and Valentino.Color Cosmetics included CK Color Cosmetics and Skin Care as directed by Dr. Patricia Wexler.I managed a technical staff of 8.

  • My team developed and launched over 400 SKU’s per year.
  • Managed the Global Product Development of all fragrances, toiletries, skin care, treatment, OTC drugs and home environment products.
  • Industrialized Formulae from Laboratory to Pilot Plant to Manufacturing.Engineered the manufacturing process, documented the approved process and supervised both pilot and first production for U.S and European manufacturers.
  • Directed the re-engineering of all Master Brand Fragrances to be IFRA compliant and DEP-free with Fragrance Suppliers.
  • Developed and implemented a Fragrance Sampler Approval Plan which minimized the time manpower and resources required to develop Scented Samplers.
  • Key liaison between Marketing and Operations.I maintained open communications between Marketing and all other corporate departments with specific emphasis on interactions with QA, Operations and International.Primary contact with Fragrance Suppliers and Contract Manufacturers responsible for Vendor Selection making sure all deliverable were on time and quality expectations were met.
  • Partnered with and managed co-development with outside vendors for Skin and Home.
  • Directed all Product Development activities including Stability Testing, Compatibility Testing, Microbiological Testing, Toxicological Integrity, and Claims Substantiation.
  • Responsible for the development and management of annual PD budget, capital requirements and manpower plans.
  • Established standards for scientific integrity and ethical performance of products and staff.I provided leadership, managerial and technical direction to subordinates.

I led the domestic Product Development activities for Calvin Klein Cosmetics.Brands included Obsession and Obsession for men, Eternity and Eternity for men, Escape,, cK one/cK be, Crave, Contradiction, Moment.

  • Developed and launched over 150 new SKU’s per year.
  • Formulated all fragrances, toiletries and personal care products for these products moving product formulation from the vendor control to in-house control.
  • Engineered the manufacturing process, documented the approved process and supervised both pilot and first production in the U.S.
  • Brought all product formulation in-house establishing full creative control.
  • Responsible insuring a 3 year shelf life for all products.This was substantiated via Stability Testing.
