Managing large outpatient rehabilitation department at three locations (New Haven, Branford, and Hamden). Interdisciplinary team including physical, occupational and speech therapy and oversight of occupational rehabilitation program. Key Accomplishments: Responsible for review of all staff including 15 therapists and additional support staff. Mentoring professional staff regarding timely documentation and proper practices in compliance with Medicare guidelines. Implement and monitor all departmental quality assurance programs. Conduct all other peer review and tracking programs per TJC guidelines. Partnered with Human Resources to obtain full staffing. Leading WorkWell Functional Capacity Evaluation, Functional Job Descriptions, and Work Site Assessments for client companies. Providing regular staff educational programs covering evidence based clinical issues, documentation, and professional practice. Successful during recent Joint Commission survey with zero department findings. Worked with Leadership Team in preparation for Joint Commission with extensive training. Trained staff in use of EPIC EHR system and continue to work with EPIC team to develop improvements and reports to benefit the organization. Currently working with EPIC team on Optimization tools for improving therapy documentation. Key Accomplishments:

  • Increased net revenue by 16% in 2001 ($2.2 MM projected through 11 months), 12% in 2000 ($1.9 MM).
  • Increased gross revenue by 24% for 2001 ($3.5 million) and 17% for 2000 ($2.8 million).
  • Focused on staffing to reduce personnel expenses from 64% of sales in 1999 to 51% in 2001.
  • Reduced DSO (Days Sales Outstanding) through improved collections and billing processes, better office management policies, and improved relations with insurance companies. DSO reduced from 81 days in 1999 to 64 days in 2001.
  • Established new clinic in 2001 (initiated in February) with 6% profit year-to-date, exceeding budget goals. With this start-up, established contracted for occupational health services with agencies and the State of CT.
  • Exceeded performance objectives in 2000 and 2001 and achieved or exceeded all budgetary goals.

Founded and managed all aspects of operation of three physical therapy clinics in the Greater Waterbury area. Responsibilities included providing leadership, financial models, strategic planning, relationships with insurance companies, physician, other providers, and day-to-day clinical supervision and treatment.  

  • Grew on clinic in 1988, with $280,000 in net revenue to three clinics in 1998 with $1.6 MM in net revenue.
  • Established strong professional relationships with primary care physicians and specialists, gaining their trust and referral.
  • Negotiated with banks and other financial organizations to procure financing including a $300,000 loan through the SBA.
  • Lobbied for the practice and profession, through leadership roles with the Connecticut Physical Therapy Association, including solid relationships with many of today’s legislative leaders in Hartford and Washington DC. Served as key contact for the American Physical Therapy Association with Senators Joseph Lieberman and Christopher Dodd.
  • Established contracts with skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, and home care agencies for added opportunities to provide care across the health care continuum.
