Naamaroo Uniting Venues
My responsibilities at Naamaroo focused on the maintenance of the Naamaroo convention centre site. Maintenance duties were extensive and included oversight of grounds as well as buildings. My responsibilities included the coordination of contractors, the organisation and supervision of staff, undertaking cooking and cleaning duties when the centre was short-staffed - for example, due to illness. As Assistant Manager I contributed to large scale projects and their management, such as the refurbishment of site cabins, the construction of workshops, modification of existing facilities, refurbishment of kitchens, and major landscaping projects.
My work in this role required me to have extensive contact with the public - indeed, in many respects it was a public relations role in which I worked with a wide range of ages and ethnic groups and with a diverse range of personalities. My ready ability to get on with most people has been a consistent and demonstrated strength.
Uniting Venues is a large corporation and I was involved with a wide range of senior and middle management. I implemented and supported a wide range of policy initiative and in some cases was responsible for instigating them. I had a thorough knowledge of local government laws and statutes as they applied to the site and often interacted with local government and state authorities (such as NSW Parks and Wildlife) in the course of my duties.
I was required to use, and am competent with the full Microsoft Office suite of products. In addition I have a good working knowledge of web based applications including social media tools and am familiar with the way these are able to better market the organisation.
A wide range of staff reported to me and I was responsible in the first instance for their contract negotiation and settling their terms of employment. I consider myself a competent and compassionate supervisor, sympathetic to the day to day issues and concerns that can preoccupy my staff.
The hardware element of an IT network is something of which I have a good working knowledge. I have above average skills in connecting not just IT networks but sound systems as well, a valuable skill in a conference site. My trouble-shooting skills are exceptional and I have the capacity to determine the likely source of a problem before a tradesman has to be called, or where that is not required, solving the problem myself.
To that end I also have a high level understanding of many trades and technologies - plumbing, air conditioning, construction. This has meant that I have been able to not only make cost effective diagnosis of problems but have been able to effectively monitor and oversee contracted repairs.
This role required me to contribute to a wide range of financial management and oversight. This included daily assessment of cost effectiveness of operations, through to regular reporting and budget management.
I was required to contribute to status and other statutory reporting on a regular basis and am very comfortable with this sort of administrative oversight.
I had numerous opportunities to function in the Naamaroo Manager's role for extensive periods of time and demonstrated a strong capacity for and comfort with this level of responsibility, management and leadership. Until July 2012 where my position became redundant after restructuring.
