Family Leave of Absence -- Sabbatical

My son was born on November 5, 1990.I took the next five years off to stay at home.When I returned to the work force, I did not want to travel as I did in sales/marketing.I developed my own consulting business as a paralegal and eventually returned to work in marketing for local community banks.

1988 - 1990

Sales Representative


Assessed, negotiated and purchased Student Loan portfolios in compliance from participating lenders. Sold additional technical services for lenders and placed them under contract. Oversaw transition of portfolios from lender to SallieMae’s Legal and Servicing Departments.

Solicited and secured new business in marketing territory of Oregon, California and Hawaii. Assisted National Accounts Staff and Key National Accounts with group presentations to educational institutions. Represented and promoted SallieMae at all social functions and industry conferences relevant to marketing territory.


  • First Representative invited to re-open service provider discussions with Wells Fargo Bank after two years of closed discussions. Successfully established client relationship.
  • Acquired $2 million in new proposals from small lenders remaining not under contract to SallieMae in one-week sales trip.
  • Achieved first year goal of $80 million in new business and purchase commitments for California and Hawaii.

Texas Migrant Council – Co-authored with Dr. Lawrence Redlinger “Migrant Farm Workers: Neglect or Abuse of Children/Policy Recommendations”.Published by the Federal Government and instrumental in changing laws that provided for the health and education of the children of Migrant Farm Workers.1979
