GLOUCESTERSHIRE, England (March 5, 2013) – Readathon, one of the world’s leading organizations that encourages children to read, has been chosen to participate in World Book Night, which will be held April 23, 2013. World Book Night is designed to transform individuals who do not regularly read for pleasure into habitual and eager leisure readers. Since its inception, Readathon has received the endorsement of popular authors from around the world, including Roald Dahl, Julia Donaldson, and Robert Stanek.On World Book Night, event organizers will print 400,000 copies of a special edition paperback of a popular novel. Each year, both individuals and organizations are invited to submit suggestions to World Book Night as to what this selected novel will be. This year, Readathon’s suggestion of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island was accepted, on April 23 volunteers will distribute free copies of this classic to reluctant readers with the hopes of converting them into avid readers. Popular adult, young adult, and children’s author Robert Stanek has been a longtime supporter of Readathon. In addition to Readathon, Robert Stanek actively supports the Parent Teacher Association and Special Olympics.
