Robert (Bob) O’Neill is Senior Vice President of Charles Schwab.He is responsible for leading the firm’s National Retirement and Acquisition Strategies and new enterprise solutions (Gen X initiative and High Yield Investor Checking).In 2008, he created a multi-year retirement strategy resulting in launch of Schwab’s “ Real Life Retirement ” a cross enterprise brand initiative to differentiate Schwab in the marketplace via national advertising campaign, new retirement products and solutions, newsmaker surveys and creating the industry’s best retirement advisors and financial consultants.Prior to this role in 2007, Mr. O’Neill launched Schwab’s Executive Services organization, which provides complete wealth management advisory solutions to 401k plans and executive suite officers of corporations throughout the U.S.In Q1, 2009 this organization represented 20% of firm’s retail flows.
During the last 16 years, Mr. O’Neill has spent his time supporting the needs of corporations, participants and investors in the retirement industry. Working with some of America’s most respected companies and non-profit organizations, Mr. O’Neill has spent his career providing comprehensive and integrated approaches to retirement management and strategy.
Prior to Schwab Mr. O’Neill was Senior Vice President of retail Acquisition Marketing at Fidelity Investments, the largest mutual fund company in the United States, the number one provider of workplace retirement savings plans, one of the largest mutual fund supermarkets, and a leading online brokerage firm.Mr. O’Neill joined Fidelity Investments in 1994 and has since held various leadership positions in marketing, retirement, product development, and corporate strategy.His role involved targeting 30 million mass affluent and high net worth investors and $25 trillion in assets in the United States via multiple media and distribution channels.His leadership has led to successful strategic development and execution of comprehensive, company-wide marketing and sales initiatives – including groundbreaking rollover and retirement programs -- that drove over $40 billion in retirement assets annually and added millions of new customers to the firm.Based on his work Fidelity now leads the industry in IRA and Rollover market share.Mr. O’Neill was also responsible for marketing partnerships, alliances, offers and local market development that drive new customer acquisition.He spearheaded and launcheda partnership with Amazon.com to create a financial services store on America’s largest online retailer site, and has launched major marketing alliances with MBNA/Bank of America, American Express, American Airlines, United Airlines and the State of California.
Prior to joining Fidelity, Mr. O’Neill provided consulting and due diligence services on several private placements and venture capital deals for multiple leading firms, including GE Capital, Summit Partners, and Highland Capital.Mr. O’Neill has worked extensively across Asia, Europe, and North America through his financial services career, and as a Captain in the United States Army.He commanded a combat support company in Central Europe, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for actions during Operation Desert Storm in Iraq.
Mr. O’Neill received a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Providence College and a Master in Business Administration from Olin School of Management at Babson College.He is a licensed Securities Principal, and was awarded Fidelity’s President’s Circle Award for Excellence based on his 5 year Strategic Planning work.Mr. O’Neill was a keynote speaker at the Advisor Council in Tokyo, Japan, the FRC IRA Rollover Summit, the Financial Communications Forum, Forrester Finance Forum on best practices in Financial Services Marketing, the FRIAG Investment Advisor Sales Conference, and the National Financial Advisor Council.In addition, he has been featured on CNBC and Fox Business Television, USA Today, Forbes, Money on topics covering Generation X/Y, Boomers, Transitioning to Retirement and Retirement.
