Seafish aims to ensure an economically and environmentally sustainable fishing industry.

Worked both independently and as part of a team to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Working to a rigid timescale, I used advanced formulas in Microsoft Excel to analyse large datasets and create reports in a clear and accessible language for a wide-ranging audience.

During my contract, I gained an insight into the numerous environmental and economic issues facing the UK fishing industry.

Assistant Research Technician

Seasonal contract within the soils, crops and water department of a major agricultural and environmental consultancy.

Our team worked unsupervised in the field to undertake activities such as drilling, pesticide sprays and combine harvesting during specific crop growth stages.

I developed valuable skills such as disease assessment, plant identification and bioassay.

I applied a flexible approach by working evenings and weekends during busy periods.

By maintaining a positive outlook, we successfully delivered results despite the unusually wet summer in 2012.

Energy & Climate Change Intern

City of Cape Town

Working with people from a range of backgrounds, my experience at the City of Cape Town branch has significantly developed my communication and interpersonal skills.

The placement has given me a great understanding of the structure and operation of a city municipality in a developing country.

I took a lead role in organising major events such as the City’s Energy Efficiency Forum for Commercial Businesses. Working to a tight deadline, I liaised with participants such as the attendees and host venue by email, phone and face-to-face communication.

I developed the Climate Smart Cape Town campaign, an initiative to raise awareness of climate change. I achieved this by designing and publishing a website which features scientific data from the IPCC report on climate change, presented in a clear and easy-to-read language. The venture was officially launched by the Mayor of Cape Town.

I was central in the management of Africa’s first Blue Flag marina.
