Charged with the daily general care of one of several barns of broodmares, foals and young stock under minimal supervision.  Responsibilities ranged from feeding, stall care, basic medical treatment and preparation of sale horses to assisting the vet and farrier.  Also assisted with the Standardbred breeding program.

Worked with the Office of Institutional Advancement to research possible sources of funding for the equine program, particularly regarding potential green projects.

  • Investigated local and national foundations as potential grant resources
  • Compiled lists of past alumni with contact information for future communications
  • Looked into equine related businesses connected with alumni for communications and networking

Communicated with the Office of Institutional Advancement about the equine program, giving an insider's perspective.

  • Writing brief pieces about the equine program including its needs and an overview of a prospective manure management project
  • Writing an overview of the equine program and a student's experiences in their four years in it, to be used by such people as the general administration or admissions
  • Meeting with members of the department to give an inside look and answer questions

  • Tacked up horses and assisted riders with getting ready for their lesson.
