In August 1995, I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from the University of Texas at Arlington.  While working in the residential construction industry I gained valuable job-site experience in building techniques and trade practices, as well as the use and application of the Uniform Building Code.

I was able to put my field experience to work as the designer in a design/build remodeling company. Later, I left to start my own design business, in which I put together and worked with teams from various engineering disciplines on residential and mixed-use projects.

I moved to Texas from San Diego in the spring of 2005.  In 2006 I went to work at Home Depot and gained management experience as a department supervisor.  My development as a manager has translated into the 9% growth of several already successful departments, as well as the turn-around of another department into the best in the district.

  • Working Drawings:  Consulted with engineers (structural, environmental, fire, geotechnical, etc) to produce a full set of working drawings, including floor plans, foundation, framing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, schedules, details, and anything else necessary to describe the structural and architectural construction of the project.
  • Permits and Inspections: Worked with city building officials to obtain all required permits for the proposed work.  Additionally, I met field inspectors at the job site for standard progress inspections and to discuss job-site changes and corrections.

Project Management
I have enjoyed organizing and working with teams from various engineering disciplines (city engineering, geophysical, structural, environmental, and acoustical) on many residential and mixed-use projects. These collaborations provide more than a necessary function; in some cases they allow us to use defining structural elements as design elements.  Sometimes the necessity of function opens up unexplored possibilities.
Architectural Rendering
Mostly self-taught, I have produced architecturally rendered drawings for contest entries, construction documents, and community presentations.  The media I most commonly use are Prismacolor pens and colored pencils, although I have used watercolor and acrylics on occasion.
Model Building
I have used this skill for years in order to work out massing and spacial modeling, and to help describe a project in an easy hands-on experience.  The best materials to work with are cardboard, card-stock, bass wood, and acrylic sheets.
Drafting/ Construction Documents
I have over ten years of active experience drawing and compiling construction and engineering documents for permit review and approval.  I prefer modeling design programs (for the virtual experience as much as for the accurate reality-check they provide).  I have experience in the field as a third-party construction inspector, so much of my design is based on first-hand knowledge of how details translate to real-world construction.
