About Rick

I am a proven entrepreneur and business leader with several years of Board level international experience with US and UK quoted and private equity backed consumer, technology and professional service companies where I developed and executed successful growth plans and led a number of successful acquisitions/integrations, business turnarounds and exits. I have raised substantial development funds from private investors and invested personally in a number of successful business start-ups. I have also successfully applied that knowledge and experience in a number of non-executive roles in business start-ups and the not-for-profit sector. I attribute much of my success to my ability to build and lead results-driven teams of highly motivated people with whom it has been a real pleasure to work.

Most recently, I led the expansion of iProfile as the UK's first online CV and its entry into international markets.  During my tenure, revenues doubled, registered users increased to 3 Million and major alliances were secured with channel partners including  leading recruitment agencies, employer led organisations, the public sector and a leading telco provider.

I joined iProfile from PRG Schultz, the world's leading forensic audit group, where I was Executive Vice President of its International operations that covered 40 countries in Europe, Latin America, Asia Pacific and Canada and employed 1500 consultants and support staff.  In this role I introduced global client management teams focussed on delivery of audit solutions to major international retail and industrial clients, led contract negotiations with these companies, exited non-strategic and non-profitable businesses and built a management team and  technology infrastructure capable of driving and supporting the international growth of the Company.

Before moving to the US, I led Parity Group's London based international technology staffing business (revenues £100m) and built its presence in the US and Europe through a number of acquisitions and strategic alliances that broadened its HR service offering and took the company into more embedded, higher value added relationships with its corporate and public sector clients. In this role I applied technology to improve a number of businesses processes, create a new business model and gain visibility of the operational metrics needed to make better informed and more timely business decisions.

Prior to Parity I lived and worked in France and delivered improved financial performance by developing and implementing business improvement and turnaround programmes in a number of mature international industrial and consumer product industries. This involved the application of tight financial management disciplines and the willingness to roll-up my sleeves and lead from the front. These roles took me to Latin America and the Far East to renegotiate major commercial contracts, to France and the UK to restructure and sell a number of engineering companies including an office equipment manufacturer employing 1000 people, to Puerto Rico to manage an electronics manufacturer and transfer its operations to the US mainland and across Europe where I turned around two leading pan-European  retail brands. During this period I also initiated a number of successful outsourcing contracts to generate strategic and commercial benefits. I have been able to use this experience in later roles to beneficial effect to create revenue opportunities or reduce structural operating costs.

I began my professional business career as a Corporate Analyst with BP in London where I developed my strategic and business planning skills. My wish to become more involved with the business was answered when I was posted first to the USA and then to Spain to lead BP's non-energy business development activities in these markets. This involved leading a number of acquisitions and setting up businesses to exploit BP technologies. In Spain, having acquired two companies, I gained my first general management experience when I took on the integration and management of these acquisitions and then led a new business technology start-up.

I hold a First Class Degree in Land Economy from the University of Cambridge and after my degree worked as a Researcher and Lecturer in the University's Department of Applied Economics. I am fluent in French and Spanish.

My non-executive roles have included the funding of two business start ups - one in France which was exited successfully in 1996 and one in the UK which provides the real estate profession with a unique database service. I have also advised and supported a digital media start-up in Spain with its entry into the US and UK markets. I have worked as a mentor with Junior Achievement in the USA and in the UK I am closely involved with Arrival Education that gives real career options to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds by rewarding them with access to  successful business leaders and their companies in exchange for their active involvement in local community projects. I am also a business advisor to Pilotlight with whom I work to coach charities through the process of building measurably more sustainable and efficient organisations.
