Richard Seff is a practicing lawyer and the owner of the Estate Planning Law Center in Calabasas, California. Previously a social worker, Richard Seff incorporates his belief in empowering families into his law practice, which gives particular focus to creating foundational estate plans that ensure that his clients’ families are taken care of when they need it the most. After obtaining his J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law in 1990, Richard Seff began working as a lawyer for an estate planning law firm. He soon realized that he was not able to build personal relationships with his clients because the firm charged expensive per-hour rates, just like most other law firms. Furthermore, his personal experience of losing his grandfather and having to attend to a long and draining court process soon afterward despite his grandfather having consulted with an attorney on his estate plan before his death compelled Seff to start his own law practice dedicated to serving his clients in a more responsible and personal manner. As a Lawyer for Life, Richard Seff is committed to treating his clients with compassion and respect rather than focusing on fees and billing. Every three years, he offers his clients a free estate plan review so that as circumstances in their lives change, their estate plan is modified to reflect those changes. Moreover, the estate plans with which Seff assists his clients more than just manage the clients’ assets after they pass away; they also account for various other possibilities, including the clients’ and their families’ needs should they develop a disability or require nursing home care.Family-oriented, Richard Seff enjoys spending his spare time with his two daughters.

Work experience

The Estate Planning Law Center

Before becoming a lawyer in 1990, I earned a Master's Degree in Social Work and practiced family therapy. Then I earned a Master's Degree in Health Care Admin. from GW University. As a hospital executive, I led a committee in the creation of an inpatient diagnostic Alzheimer's Unit. I chose estate planning as my specialty because it resonated with my passion of empowering families. I serve families who want the guarantee that their estate plan will work when they need it most. That's why I offer a free yearly estate plan review - for people who expect things to change throughout their lifetime and want a trusted advisor to guide them through those changes. People who are busy, love kids and want to leave the world a better place.
