Dr. Richard Hertle, the Director of Pediatric Ophthalmology at Akron Children’s Hospital, also serves as a Professor of Surgery in Ophthalmology at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Rootstown, Ohio. A respected member of his field, Dr. Hertle attracts patients from around the globe who seek his skill in treating eye diseases and disorders in children of all ages. Dr. Richard Hertle maintains certifications from the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Ophthalmology. He also serves as a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College Of Surgeons as well as a Specialty Fellow with the American Academy of Pediatrics. Richard Hertle, MD, has been appointed to a number of academic positions during his career. He previously served as Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr. Hertle also taught at the National Institutes of Health, the National Eye Institute, and the Laboratory of Sensorimotor Research. He has provided advisory services on numerous occasions as well, having acted as a consultant for the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. In addition to his duties as Attending Staff Ophthalmologist and Director of Pediatric Ophthalmology at Akron Children’s Hospital, Dr. Richard Hertle also treats patients as an attending staff member at Brecksville Surgery Center in Ohio and Summa Akron City Hospital. His numerous hospital and administrative affiliations include serving as a Senior Scientist and Investigator in Pediatric Ophthalmology at the National Eye Institute.
