GIZ Project Intern @ African Union's Peace and Security Building (PSB)

Project Description

The African Union (AU) Commission implements a strategy to maintain peace and security throughout the African continent. To support its efforts, the German Federal Foreign Office has donated a specialized, state-of-the-art building for the AU's Peace and Security Department.  Its approximately 13,500 sq m of floor space includes offices for about 360 employees.

The new building meets international design standards for environmental sustainability, incorporating climate-friendly and energy-efficient technologies such as KNX smart lighting technologies as well as HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air conditioning) system.

Specific Job Description

 Worked on improving the accuracy of budget and accounting for the African Union (AU).
 Monitored and did evaluation on the quality of all project data to be analysed in the existing monitoring system. These data was uploaded and regularly evaluated in the perspective of a result-based project management.
 Served as a cashier/book-keeper and performed most of the financial related activities of the project
 Compilation of all project financial data to be included in the closing statement
 Continued the existing accounting for the African Union Commission
 Facility management in terms of working on the project budget
 Participated in conferences and meetings and did minutes writing during some of the meetings for the project manager
 Performed some other administrative functions of the project
 Liaise for the AU Facility Management Department
 Enhanced my building energy efficiency skills through KNX Smart Lighting System programming and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) System operations.
