At California University of Pennsylvania

  • Manage a $35 million endowment campaign with revenues of $9 million in past two years.
  • Lead team of 24 professional and support staff in all aspects of advancement programs.

  • Develop and manage a program budget in excess of $250,000 annually.

At Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences of West Virginia

  • Created and implemented 25 MillionSmiles Endowment Campaign to raise $25 million to make the museum free for all West Virginia school children; campaign revenues were $3 million at the end of the first year during the recent economic recession.
  • Oversaw raising more than $3 million in operational support during my tenure.
  • Provided direction to 4 staff members in areas of membership, sponsorship, major gifts, grants, and development operations.
  • Served as a member of the President’s Senior Staff responsible for developing strategic and tactical plans for the Center.
  • Created and managed departmental budgets in excess of $600,000 annually.

At Emory & Henry College

  • Oversaw fund raising activities totaling more than $25 million; average of$5.7 million per year.
  • Provided direction to 9 professional and support staff in areas of Major and Planned Giving, Annual Giving, Alumni Relations, Foundation and Government Relations, Stewardship, and Development Operations.

At Mountain State University (formerly known as The College of West Virginia)

  • Oversaw fund raising activities totaling more than $3 million with a focus on targeted capital campaigns.
  • Provided direction to 5 professional and support staff in areas of Planned and Major Giving, Alumni Affairs, Annual Fund, Government and Foundation Grants, and Development Operations.
  • Served as a member of the President’s Senior Staff.
  • Established a fully functioning advancement operation from minimal beginnings with meager budget.

At Columbia College

  • Productively managed a staff of 10 professionals and support staff covering the areas of Planned and Major Giving, Corporate and Foundation Relations, Annual Giving, Records and Research, Public Relations and Publications Design and generated $2-3 million of capital, endowment and current-use support annually.
  • Brought to a highly successful conclusion, a five-year comprehensive capital campaign that achieved 63% over its $10.5 million goal.
  • Prepared and managed annual program budgets in excess of $150,000 without exceeding budgetary constraints.

At Oberlin College

  • Effectively managed a staff of 26 professionals and support staff successfully managing 7 distinct development programs generating over $10 million annually.
  • Brought an $80 million, 5½; year, comprehensive fund raising campaign to a highly successful conclusion at $94.5 million.
  • Developed and managed annual budgets in excess of $1.5 million and consistently achieved budgetary goals.
  • Successfully coordinated and began implementation of strategic fund raising plans for several targeted mini-campaigns with individual goals of $3-5 million.
  • Successfully worked with the representatives of over 50 estates and secured over $10 million in distributions - solicited dozens of individuals for inclusion in their wills resulting in bequest promises in excess of $3 million.
  • Served as department representative on several college committees including Strategic Planning, Senior Management Team, Labor/Management, ADA Compliance, Student Retention, Travel, Orientation, Registration, Senate Faculty and General Faculty.

Vice President for Univesity Development and Alumni Relations

California University of Pennsylvania

Founded in 1852, Cal U is one of 14 state-owned universities. Located in southwestern Pennsylvania, it is a regional, comprehensive, master’s-level university with an enrollment of 9,500 students. I oversee all aspects of a complex, advancement program, including: leadership gifts, major gifts, planned gifts, donor relations and stewardship, corporate and foundation relations, advancement services, alumni relations, special events, annual giving, and a $35 million endowment campaign. Reporting directly to the university president, I serve on Cabinet, as well as numerous campus committees.I also serve as the university liaison to the affiliated, yet independent, private foundation.


Chief Development Officer

Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences of West Virginia

The Clay Center is West Virginia’s premier, non-profit arts and science museum, which includes a 175-seat large-format film theater and 1900-seat performance hall.World-class performers, artists and scientists are showcased at the Clay Center each year.I was responsible for overseeing the fund raising team of staff and dozens of volunteers to raise money for annual operations and a newly initiated endowment campaign.I oversaw major and planned gifts, grants, annual support, membership, sponsorship, and special fund raising events.I worked closely with Collectors Club and Friends of the Clay Center, both volunteer groups responsible for generating gift revenue in support of the Center’s mission.


Chief Development Officer

         E&H College is a private, rural, Methodist, liberal arts college serving 1,000 students annually. A nationally-ranked, academically selective institution, E&H’s strengths include the natural sciences, business, mass communications, teacher education, and theatre. I oversaw development and alumni activities including strategic planning, annual giving, major and planned gifts, special events, foundation and government relations, stewardship, campaign planning, and alumni relations. I served on the Executive Council (the President’s leadership cabinet) and staffed the Development Council of the Board of Trustees. I also served on other college-wide committees including the Strategic Planning and Priorities Committee, Marketing Council, Budget Committee, Crisis Management Team, and the Presidential Inauguration Committee.


Vice President for Institutional Advancement

MSU is an independent, private university serving more than 3,000 students annually through campus-based and distance education programs.The focus at MSU is on preparing graduates for careers in the fields of health science, business and public service. I molded a fledgling advancement team into an effective productive program while providing direction for the University’s advancement efforts in securing private individual, corporate, foundation and government support.I served on the President’s Cabinet and assisted in creating future opportunities for the university.


Executive Director for Development

Columbia College is a private Methodist women's liberal arts college of 1,300 students with a special focus on women’s leadership studies. I oversaw all development and public relations activities while bringing closure to a highly successful $17 million comprehensive campaign.


Director of Development

Oberlin College is a highly selective liberal arts college that serves more than 2,700 students each year through both the College and Conservatory of Music. I held many positions of increasing responsibility including Director of Donor Research, Director of Planned Giving, Director of Capital Giving for which I was responsible for managing a major capital campaign that ran from1987-1991 and generated more than $94 million, and Director of Development.  I ultimately functioned in the role of chief development officer during a lengthy search for a new vice president.
