Renee Saechao

Child Development/ Psychology Graduate CSU, Chico

I am a recent graduate of California State University, Chico and have earned two Bachelors of Arts degrees in Child Development and Psychology. I grew up in Butte County and am a first generation collage graduate. My family immigrated here from Southeast Asia in the 70s and have always had high hope for me and my future. They have taught me the value of hard work while remaining humble about all that I have been blessed with. These values they have instilled in me have inspired me to learn more about people and how I can help inspire them. I have lived in Butte County all of my life and have encountered some of the best people and experiences of my life, but in a region occupied by poverty I have also encountered some of the most devastating effects of poverty as well as criminal activity involving drugs. It is through my educational experiences at Chico State that I have learned about the potential factors influencing how we develop and experience the world. For some children and families experiencing poverty there a several risk factors that keep them from reaching their full potential in society. However, it is my belief that we can change the lives of these children and families through education and exposure to resources.
