Work experience

Mar 2017Present
Telesto Digital LLC

Director of Business Development

For this start-up company, I was hired to bring attention to the company, build lists of potential clients and partners in a variety of industry sectors and expand business.

I engage with decision makers primarily within the pharmaceutical and life science industries, via cold calls and emails on a daily basis; schedule studio tours and/or meetings to discuss our solutions and/or partnering.

I oversee all marketing efforts to bring attention to the company and continue promoting it by creating content for all campaigns, social media and email blasts about the brands, products and services offered.

Positive Publications LLC

Assistant Publisher / Managing Editor

Head of worldwide sales, business development and special project management lead.

Managed publication operations and oversaw product launch, marketing and communications functions, brand management, PR, media relations, customer relations, advertising and sales, on a daily basis. I dealt with board-level executives in various industries on sales, business development, negotiations and articles/advertisements.

The company publishes a manufacturing magazine that deals with all sectors of industry, worldwide. Some of them include automotive, aerospace, food/beverage, consumer, pharma/medical, metals/mining, plastics, transportation, and many others.  As a result I gained knowledge and experience as to how companies operate, who the decision makers are and how to pinpoint potential customers.

• Helped start up 2 successful magazine titles: “FDQ” (Food & Drink Quarterly) and “Industry Virginia” (in conjunction with the Virginia Manufacturers Association).
• Performed ongoing customer/market research and demographic profiling to identify and capitalize on unmet market needs ahead of the curve.
• Expertise in the sales process: prospecting, cold calling, direct selling, up-selling
• $450,000 - $900,000 sold in advertising space per year for Industry Today.
• $150,000 - $350,000 sold in ad revenue on other publication projects.

Marketing:
• Created concept and copy for promotional campaigns (email, newsletters, social- media) and sales collateral for customers. Conduct proofing and editing of articles and advertisements.
• Expanded client base by over 82.5% by consistent marketing and sales results.

People's Education

Florida Sales Manager

Sales territory manager for the state of Florida, overseeing and managing 5 sales reps.

Promoted and sold educational books to schools statewide, set up and conducted meetings with top staff at schools and with the government.  I gained knowledge of how schools worked, who the decision makers were and how to get to them.
I secured a personal meeting with Jeb Bush's educational staff to bring exposure and value to the books, which was very successful.

As a part of this role, I also helped develop curriculum and lessons for missing grade levels of the “Measuring Up” series.

James J. Curtin Archives

Vice President/ Business Development

Published writer of 7 books and 3 magazines in the entertainment genre.

Developed proposals, solicited them to publishers worldwide and when interest arose, negotiated contracts and assisted in all aspects of the business to get a product published and on the market. Duties included: writing, editing, proof-reading and preparing stories for dissemination, ensuring that all documents met content standards for that specific publisher. For two publications, I did copy photography in addition to designing and creating layouts. Established the creative direction for the books, working directly with editors and producers to determine the best photographic and text content of the publications. Researched and approved photos along with digitizing and enhancing them for each project. Operated the archive’s website, created original graphics and icons for use on the site, and in addition, implemented the web design parameters, style guides and visual standards.
• Books sold between 10,000 and 250,000 copies worldwide
• Magazines sold well over a million issues.
