Medical Transcription

Seton Healthcare Network

I did transcription for the Anatomic Pathology Department.

I excel at prioritization as I must make multiple decisions throughout the day between what is typed first and what can wait.  I am proficient at working within this deadline driven environment as all of the work must be completed within a given amount of hours in one day.  It requires me to be highly organized, focused, and good under pressure.

It also requires extensive teamwork as we must function as a whole unit or the work would never be completed.  I am good at self-managing my time and priorities,.  Although we work as a team, the work is done as an individual.

I am proficient on CoPath and EditScript/eMon.  I type about 80 words per minute.

I train new hires  and continue to provide support and guidance afterwards.

Aug 2008 - Mar 2009

Assistant Manager

Northland purchased Madison at the Arboretum & the other seven former Equity Residential Austin properties August 22, 2008.  They were a growing, rapidly expanding company.

This position involved primarily administrative work such as filing, letters, compiling reports, marketing projects, etc.  One of my favorite things was using my creative side to make fliers, coupons, and signs.

I was known for my sparkly customer service.  I proactively addressed customer's needs as they walked in or called unexpectedly.

I was responsible for posting all incoming monies and collecting unpaid monies. My average unpaid balance at close-out was only .4% for the last 18 months.

I checked incoming invoices & statements for correct charges from vendors.  I processed them, then sent them on to be paid.

I was responsible for legal contracts & addenda.

I acted as Property Manager when she was off-site.

Sep 2003 - Aug 2008

Assistant Manager

I started at a property in Dallas then transferred with the company to Austin.  I enjoyed working with Equity because they had very clear, distinct job descriptions & expectations.  I was incredibly successful with them because I knew what they expected from me.  I thrived because they have an outstanding company culture that embraces differences & education.  I received recommendations for my customer service from both the company & from my residents.  I successfully built strong relationships through team building with my co-workers.

I performed the same skill set as I did with Northland, minus the marketing.

At my Dallas property, I enjoyed supervising our Leasing Consultant.  It was a positive experience designing goals & training.  I was able to provide support & motivation.  It was very enriching to be a part of their career development.  It was satisfying to watch them grow and succeed!  It was a learning experience to be on the other side of the table - to be the one discussing what needed to be improved in their performance.

Feb 2000 - Sep 2003

Administrative Assistant IV

Texas Health Resources

I worked at Presbyterian Hospital of Plano in the Pathology Department.  This was another very well organized & forward thinking organization.  It was like working in a mini-city.

One of my favorite things was participating in the many committee opportunities the hospital offered.    I volunteered on a committee where our sole focus was to keep employee morale up.  We brainstormed goofy contests & gave away wonderful prizes.  It was so very nice to make people smile & brighten their day.  I also volunteered on a committee within the lab that worked to facilitate a dialogue between the lab & the nursing stations.  We did this by communication.

I was one of the medical transcriptionists for the department.  I love words & did well with the medical terminology.  At this job I also did some coding.

I also performed other secretarial tasks:  composing formal letters, filing, faxing, etc.  I did calendar maintenance & scheduled domestic travel.

Jul 1998 - Feb 2000

Front/Back Office

Texas Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Group

This job was classic front office/back office.  I made appointments, verified insurance,  collected money from patients & insurance companies.  I checked patients in & took them to their room.  I checked them out.  I traveled between two offices.

Nov 1993 - Jul 1998

Research Assistant

KLD Associates

This was a contracting job with the US Department of Transportation.  We did car accident research.  I supported an office of five researchers.  I did the usual general office tasks, but I also worked with area hospitals to obtain medical records for the crash victims.  I visited several police departments each week & after reviewing their reported accidents, I determined if they could be used in our studies.  I managed petty cash.  I did the monthly bank statement.  I was responsible for ordering office supplies.  I set up the filing system as this office did not have a functioning one.

Feb 1987 - Sep 1990

Retail Sales Associate

Interspersed amongst this are bits & pieces of time devoted to retail.

The Bealls job I was at for two years then went to business school.  I did merchandising, ran a cash register, etc.

Cisco Networking

Collin County Community College

I participated in a curriculum that Cisco put together to teach people about computer networking, specifically using their routers.  I found I had a natural aptitude for computers & did well.

Career Point Business School

Here I learned how to be a proper secretary using modern office procedures.

I can turn a frown upside down!

I am genuine & sincere & I believe in people.

I am someone who emerges as a leader when no one else wants to.

I can take the job you give me & succeed where no one else can.

I am an optimistic Pollyanna with a big smile.

I am efficient.

I am responsible.

I do the details, not skip them.

I meet your expectations, then exceed them.

I am like an octopus with its tentacles - I can do several things at once & still stay on task.

I am proactive.

I enjoy writing poetry & writing in general.  I like to explore the way people think & why, reading books about the brain & how it works.  I am fascinated with the science behind everything & have a lilliputian-sized knowledge of  physics.  I love reading Science Fiction because I think it stretches your mind.  The ocean feeds my eyes.  Sunlight refreshes me, the smell of spring makes me smile.  I like to hike & bird watch.  One of my greatest pleasures is greeting the sunrise with a cup of Starbucks Sumatra in my hand. I relish modern architecture & building practices (Dwell magazine).  And I am embarrassed to say I cannot stop laughing at goofy movies like Zoolander, no matter how many times I watch them.
