Vice President Learning & Organization Design

Waste Management

Guided the development and execution of the first corporate learning strategy. Selected accomplishments include:

  • Managed the Learning Governance Council comprised of President/COO, the SVP’s of CustomerService, IT, People, Sales and the Corporate Secretary linking the learning strategy and the $44 million dollar training spend to business priorities for the first time.
  • Designed strategic workshops to communicate and increase the understanding of the company strategy and key initiatives for the top 200 and top 1,500 executives using action learning resulting in more then 85% retention and application.
  • Secured two year funding ($32 million dollars) from Senior Leadership to implement the transformation process company wide that became one of the CEO’s Board objectives.
  • Developed and implemented multi-disciplined training for 600 District Managers and 1000 Route Managers using leaders as teachers. Reduced cost 25% in second year.
  • Spearheaded redesign of the Training Department to focus on business competencies culminating in higher quality programs with improved business metrics.
  • Launched new hire sales program delivering a 10% increase in revenue in 30% less time.

Vice President Human Resources

Developed and implemented human resource strategy for $2.3 billion dollars in revenue business with 10,000 employees of which 20% are covered by collective bargaining agreements. Successfully led team of seven HR Managers, twenty-five HR Generalists and seven Recruiters. Selected accomplishments include:

  • Developed leadership assessment, selection and succession planning program for Regional Presidents and key regional management.
  • Successfully turned around troubled operation by recruiting new division vice-president and seasoned HR professional. Division improved from having the largest loss in the company ($14 million) to making a profit in three years.
  • Topgraded Human Resource department resulting in above average performance and execution against deliverables compared to other group HR teams across the organization.
  • Managed HR aspects of merger and transition including, consolidation, communication of new benefits program, executive compensation, organizational structure, payroll system conversion and re-defining the role of the HR department in the new organization.
  • Designed and implemented a standardized recruiting program reducing turnover 10%, time to hire 50% and increased the candidate pool 100% in 7 markets.
