Current Position: Communications Specialist

SEIU Local 1021

March 2007 - Present

I work in the Communications Dept. of SEIU Local 1021, a labor union  representing more than 50,000 public service employees in local government agencies, public hospitals, superior courts, and nonprofit organizations across northern California.

  • Serve on the communications team of SEIU California’s statewide campaign for implementation of healthcare reform; develop messaging and organize media events.
  • Created and manage the 1021 Network (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube) and the local’s live streaming, email and text messaging platforms for campaign alerts and event coverage.
  • Wrote the 1021 Network Site Use Policy, Community Guidelines and Text Messaging Standards & Practices. Research and recommend technology enhancements.
  • Created and produce the weekly member e-newsletter, the 1021 NewsWire.
  • Write, edit and produce news videos of member activities, including live streaming of public rallies and events.
  • Maintain relations with the press for legislative, election and contract campaigns.
  • Develop communications plans, design and produce field materials, and oversee and collaborate with designers, printers and other vendors.
