As FSCO for Khartoum I used to conduct security threat assessment of the AOR to include all locations where UN staff are present; prepare, maintain and update the area-specific security plan and contingency plans. Establish and manage warden systems, Prepare travel and security advisories; Establish and maintain contact with government security agencies and INGOs to share information pertaining to staff safety and security. Ensure that all security and communications equipment is functioning and in good repair; Develop, implement and supervise a radio communication monitoring mechanism and conducting routine radio checks; Assist UN agencies in developing and implementing office security requirements; establish and implement an access control mechanism (visitor/vehicle screening) for UN premises; conduct office security surveys and recommend physical security measures. assist in the selection/supervision of office guards; ensure that fire safety arrangements are in UN House, prepare fire/building evacuation plans and conduct periodical drills; prepare Sudan weekly security analysis report; Conduct residential security surveys of UN staff and recommend physical security measures to the staff member; immediately report all security related incidents, involving UN staff, to the CSA/DSA; coordinate 24-hour response to all security related incidents involving UN staff; Perform other security related tasks assigned by the CSA/DSA and DO.

Assists the FSCO to assess, collect, update and communicate information. Liaises and coordinates with the host government security organizations, military, intelligence and police commanders; Build relationships and network with the general local population and in particular with the NGO/INGO community. Ensures adequate, prompt gathering and verification of security information required for proper analysis of the situation by the FSCO. Maintains regular contacts with UN Agencies Security Focal Points. Assists in maintaining the Security Plan, including updating staff lists. Helps in the preparation and review of the UN Security Plan and supports actions during the implementation of the Security Plan as required. Maintains Minimum emergency communications equipment needs. Assists in investigating incidents affecting staff, property and offices. Assists in the preparation of security reports such as the Security Incident Report, the Security Assessments and the Quarterly Incident Report. Organizes and delivers training courses on security awareness & preparedness. Conducts security orientation to newly assigned staff members and security briefings as required. Conduct residential assessments (Minimum Operating Residential Security Standards - MORSS) and office safety and security preparedness. Conducts security evaluations and provides advice on security measures to the FSCO as well as on latest trends and threats to staff safety and security. Provides general administrative assistance to the FSCO. Maintains routine and confidential correspondence files/documents. Maintains a database on host country security authority contact details. Arranges appointments, receives visitors, places and screens telephone calls and answers queries with discretion, and takes minutes and/or notes at meetings.
