Rajiv Inamdar is the Managing Director of Heidrick & Struggles' Knowledge Management Center (KMC) based in Delhi, India. Rajiv has over 30 years of international experience in the banking, market research and marketing fields. He has an honours degree in Economics from the University of Mumbai and an MBA in Marketing and Finance from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, India's premier business school.
Rajiv started his career in 1976 with JWT India as a Client Service executive and then moved to its market research division, IMRB, as a Research Executive. After two years in the research industry, he joined SmithKline Beecham (then HMM) as a Brand Manager for Horlicks, the company’s largest brand. He was lured back to the research industry with the challenging task of setting up Sri Lanka’s first market research company (Lanka Market Research Bureau) which he successfully established and managed as General Manager between 1981 and 1984. He then spent approximately two years in London with the British Market Research Bureau as Senior Associate Director, returning to India as Executive Vice President for IMRB based in Delhi. During his four years in that job, he built IMRB Delhi into a formidable force in the Indian market research industry.
In 1990, Rajiv decided to add a new dimension to his career by joining Citibank in Saudi Arabia as Marketing Director for the bank’s Private & Investment banking group. He was also responsible for the bank’s corporate communications and for managing their mutual fund business with assets under management of USD 400 million.
After five years in Riyadh, Rajiv moved on to Standard Chartered bank in Dubai as Head of Marketing for the consumer business in the Gulf region. He also launched the bank’s credit card in the Gulf and ran the credit card business for two years, after which he was appointed Head of Strategy for the consumer bank. In this role, he was involved in the bank’s acquisition of the Metropolitan Bank in Lebanon and another potential acquisition in Egypt. Rajiv returned to India as Head of Marketing for India for Standard Chartered in April 2000. He joined ORG-MARG, India's largest market research company as the President, Customized Research Services in August that year. In ORG_MARG, he was responsible for the Customized Research, Consumer Panels and B2B SBUs. In this role, he managed the merger and integration of ACNielsen India with ORG-MARG and became Executive Director for Customised Services of the combined entity managing a combined workforce of approximately 1400 permanent and contract staff.
In January 2005, Rajiv joined Egon Zehnder International and was tasked with setting up and managing their global information and research centre in India - Egon Zehnder Information and Research Services Limited - which provides services to the global offices of the firm. This centre is now well established within the firm.
In February 2007, Rajiv was appointed Managing Director of Heidrick & Struggles' (H&S) global Knowledge Management Centre in India which provides a wide range of company and industry research, database management and quality assurance services to the offices of H&S in over 40 countries
