Working for Quinnox Consultancy, on assignment to SBM. The role requires collaboration with systems integrator,  vendors and Bank. The program includes 26 applications and over 50, 000 Test Cases with UAT team of 150 Bank Testers plus 110 Quinnox team, covering functional and non-functional, data migration and front to back GL reconciliation, Interfaces and Reports. Raj was part of the leadership group of 6 people and reported to Program Executive with dotted line to CEO of Bank. His role was to recover an adversarial relationship, on a project that was 2 years overdue, with major overspend.

OIC is a Dubai based Underwriter for Consumer, Commercial, Life & Medical lines, plus Re-Insurance and Unit Linked Investments, with a turnover of USD650+Million.
Initially engaged to  manage the Oracle EBS /Financials project. Subsequently promoted to Head of Applications & Service Delivery in May 2013.

Embarked on three year strategy, that includes CORE-replacement, Customer Relationship Management(CRM), Business Intelligence(BI), corporate B2B portal and enabling technologies mobility, collaboration, Master Data Management and integration through an Enterprise Service Bus.

Recruited Project Management and specialist. Established a hybrid governance model. We combine rapid prototype cycles with structured governance, active business participation of steering groups using " Champions of Change" to maintain stakeholder commitment.

On resignation of the CIO, he recommended a two in the box model to replace him, and manage the Enterprise Technology group. This was shared between Raj, the Head of Application and Head Infrastructure, both reporting to COO.
Achievements include :

  • implementation of an innovative and partner acclaimed, quote and booking system; used by Consumer and Commercial Brokers.
  • A web-based, Request for Quote used by Marine Cargo.
  • A rapidly adopted collaboration platform based on SharePoint.
  • Oracle Financials system integrated to three core insurance systems, enabling operational efficiency by straight through payment processing for approximately 8000 claims a day.
  • A challenging core system(TCS B@ncs). Overcame several delivery challenges, including late delivery by vendor,  lack of business resources for UAT due to downsizing. change in key stakeholders, changes to requirements due to regulatory requirements and business model changes within  OIC, which included outsourcing of claims handling .

Xceed is a medium size consulting organisation focused on retail banking and insurance sectors. Raj successfully delivered a B2B and B2C website, for government regulated fund handling with assets up to UK pounds 100M.

Despite a stakeholder group who were unaccustomed to rapid software delivery, the need to resources and on-ramp  development team in six weeks, plus several regulator and client driven changes late in the cycle, we launched on time and within 10% of budget.

Success was achieved with innovative capabilities that impressed partners and provided competitive advantage over alternate offerings in the market.

We used early prototyping and made every day count over an intense period leading to the launch. This was a case study in UK‘ Director' Magazine: A tale of two Clients.

British Telecom  Global Services

As well as Telecoms, BT Global Services provides IT services. Focusing on BT's financial sector clients, the assignment was to optimise high value data centres as well as host 3rd party applications servicing Banking, Insurance and Gambling sectors using BT's private cloud offerings.

Raj worked with all levels of client organisations to consult and influence executives, asses viability through to project initiation. He conceived a methodology that encapsulated team knowledge and best practice to assess and communicate complexity, risk, readiness.

This approach ensured consistency across Europe for a BT Application Hosting Practices.  Projects included modernising legacy Life Insurance systems, Investment Banking datacenter plus Trading Room Systems such as BT iTrader. Locations were in London, Singapore and Tokyo plus several European cities requiring extended periods away, interacting with local teams.  
Value ranged from USD 500K to over USD 70M, with teams ranging from 4 to over 35.

Merrill Lynch

Part of Direct Markets(MLX): responsible for building ML's web platform for institutional clients.
Globally, Merrill Lynch had over three hundred development teams working relatively autonomously aligned to business groups. In an increasingly integrated environment, an initiative branded CMXtra was launched to

  • standardise software delivery
  • reduce time to market
  • Increase re-use
  • Improve communications and management oversight. 

Raj managed global adoption & implementation fort regions outside UA.

He collaborated and negotiated with line of business and regional Directors to understand their priorities and constraints, whilst conveying benefits of the initiative.

Achieved adoption objectives of 70% international teams and 1100 users located in London, Spain, HK and Tokyo.

Reduced change request times; from over 180 days to 6 week. Streamlined and automated‘ global release management' from days to hours.

Improved quality in terms of number of defects in production. Enhanced communication with improved transparency between business stakeholders and technology management which aided offshoring of development. Rational(now IBM) acquired the methodology from ML.

Awarded Technology Group Most Valuable Person(MVP) in 2000 for contributions to team within twelve months. Between 2003 and 2004, after 9/11, I Headed Service Quality and Crisis Management for EMEA which gave me valuable insights into ITIL and operational management of enterprise IT.
