I long to see authentic worship expressed wherever I lead. I believe worship is the closest interaction we can have with God and as a worship leader I do not believe it should be taken lightly. Worship has the power to heal, change and transform those who come and participate. James 4:4 says, "When we press into God, he presses back into us." When we come and approach Him, we actually get to interact with the God of Creation; it baffles me every time. I feel God has called me to lead people to interact with Him; I'm not called to be a performer, a cheerleader or the star but to direct people to him where He can partner with them in their circumstances and life.
I grew up in a Christian home as well as a musical one. My two older brothers are also involved in ministry and have help shape and form my heart for worship. I started leading worship when I was 16 for my high school group. My high school pastor who was also a worship leader, poured into me the honor and privilege it is to facilitate this intimate connection with God. He taught me such passion and hunger to see God move in the room. In 2002, I enrolled in a Discipleship Training School through Youth With A Mission. I lived in Brisbane Australia, as well as the Solomon Islands for nearly 6 months. This time out of high school and away from the detractions of life, built and formed my relationship with God and taught me how to hear his voice and sense his presence. I was fortunate enough to be able to lead almost daily in my school which grew my skills as a worship leader immensely.
When I returned from Australia in 2003, I began to work at Water of Life Community Church. I began working as a Worship Leader under the Worship Director, helping pioneer contemporary worship at Water of Life Church. In 2005 I started Bible school and I also moved into an Assistant Worship Director role. There I began to help with the global worship vision of Water of Life. I began to help form teams, work with media and pioneer other creative services where people could meet God. Upon graduating in May of 2008 I moved into the position of Worship Director where I have overseen, organized and staffed over 1,500 worship services a year. I massively care for the people who serve in my department. I have developed close personal friendships with many of them and long to see each one of them grow in their walk with God and in their lives. I see them as people first not musicians and they are all more important to me then filling a spot on a weekend.
Also in 2008, I married my wife Alisa and I can't imagine living this life without her. She is a Marriage and Family Therapist who recently graduated with her masters from Azusa Pacific University.
I love worship and I love the church. I love the connection to God and the way He is faithful to respond despite our flaws and imperfections. I love that He is looking for my persistence over my perfection and that the ultimate goal in this life is to know Him. That alone is reason enough to worship.
