Congresses and Communications Director

St Jude Medical

St Jude Medical is a $4 billion medical device company with its HQ in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA. Here, I am responsible for all branding, marketing communication and congresses in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Canada.

Having turned a previously mismanaged team into a really value adding one going from mere execution to strategic partnerships with internal customers, my staff is now truly enjoying their work and delivering to and beyond expectations. I have shaped up the marketing communications activities into coherent and cost efficient revenue driving communications and have designed and executed a rollout and an implementation of a new corporate brand, both internally and externally. In addition, I have successfully reorganized my team to better reflect the needs of the internal customers. Recently, I have been responsible for a complete reallocation and optimization of all marketing spend, throughout Europe and Canada. I have staff responsibility of 10 people and a budget of approx. 3,5 mEUR.

Director, Branding & Market Communication

Gambro, a medical device company headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, has approx. 7000 employees in some 40 countries and a turnover exceeding 1 billion Euros.

My responsibilities were to develop and build our corporate brand, strengthen our product brands plus make all marketing communications more cost efficient and impactful. My department consisted of Exhibitions and Marketing Communication Support, Business Intelligence and Strategic Communications. It had a staff of 14 persons and an annual budget of approx. 4 mEUR. I was member of the management team of the Lund productions site, a member of Strategic Marketing’s leadership team and a member of Gambro’s Top Manager’s Group.

Besides managing my team and my normal duties I was responsible for a series of larger projects such as developing and implementing a new sales approach, switching from a product-oriented approach to selling turnkey solutions. In addition, I designed and ran our global customer satisfaction survey and was deeply involved in certain strategic product launches.

During my time with Gambro, I initiated and executed a corporate branding project aimed at creating our customer value proposition and capture market share, which also meant securing it had a high resonance with both internal staff and customers plus other external stakeholders. The project was launched in early 2004 and has since been rolled out in all markets successfully. It is now a guiding star for the company, all the way from R&D through marketing, sales and distributors to the customers.

Gambro’s marketing organization went through a total reorganization in 2007. In that process I was very much involved and together with the SVP Strategic Marketing I created that organization.

In a process in which I outsourced some tasks and implemented new processes I cut my own budget by some 20% and even then increased the effect we had on the market.

I worked much with our second strongest brand, Hospal, which is primarily sold in southern Europe. This brand contributed to a high degree to Gambro’s EBIT and my work focused much on ensuring that that EBIT was kept at a premium level.

Account Director

Kunde & Co

Kunde & Co is one of Scandinavia’s largest marketing and advertising agencies. I worked there as Account Director and later on as responsible for all accounts in Sweden while still being involved in accounts originating from other markets. Working with several clients such as Fritz Hansen, Ecco, AstraZeneca, Bona Kemi, Deloitte Consulting and Bang & Olufsen, I managed both B2B and B2C accounts. My office was in Copenhagen where I worked with some 250 other colleagues.

We developed corporate concepts and marketing communication strategies for our clients, went through their marketing budgets and suggested efficient reallocations of resources, handled their media buying and even managed the distribution of direct marketing materials. Obviously, we also developed normal marketing communication pieces and sales tools, as any advertising agency would.

Project manager

Malmo City Street and Parks Department

Having before worked several summers for the City of Malmö, I was asked to lead a Traffic Environment Project, which I accepted. The project was well run and finally presented to the City Council. It became the most read report that year and most of the recommendations on how to improve the environment have been implemented.

Slottstadens skola

Lund Institute of Technology

I majored in Traffic Engineering. At one time I was asked by the Prefect (Head of a section) to do a paid doctorate after my exam. Although quite proud of being asked I rejected the offer due to a soon realized fact – working in the academic world was not or me. Thus, I tried the profession with the City of Malmö and after that came to the expected conclusion that engineering was not for me. I could do it very well but I wasn’t passionate about it! I did however learn a lot of valuable and efficient approaches to problem solving!

University of California, Los Angeles

FJS, Army Paratrooper School

I did my mandatory military service at the Army Parachute Ranger School. 1000 candidates applied but we were only 100 left that were accepted. Here, I learned a lot about group dynamics and leadership. It was a small unit that created everlasting bonds and some really fun moments to remember.
