I am an experienced Managing Director and Board Member, who has led a number of organisations through growth, both organically and through acquisition. I have a track record in leading and developing companies (in one case, to £30m in sales), and creating national, award winning, customer service for more than 3 million customers.

I have been responsible for establishing a number of contact centres and creating direct marketing programmes that used over 200 million items. I also have experience of building a base of blue chip financial services clients such as Amex, Barclaycard, LloydsTSB, M&S Money and RBS.

  • Business Development: Grew a business organically and through acquisition over 13 years to £30m in sales and £6m EBITDA with 200 employees and 3m customersSold, developed and managed long-term contracts with annual values ranging from £10k to £15m (Barclaycard);
  • Mergers & Acquisitions: Reversed a 2-person business with 16,000 customers into a 7 person operation with 30,000 customers over 3 months. Acquired a competitor to increase business by 20%. Made Board presentations for deal approval, negotiated purchase, managed subsequent merger and handled MMC enquiry.  Led 2 month MBO project. Reached agreement for £$23.5m debt (primary and mezzanine) and equity; beaten by trade buyer at $25m for whom he managed the due diligence process; Trebled shareholder value in less than 3 years through improved revenues, customer retention and cost control; Combined 2 operations into one £45m division;
  • Technology: Led 14 month £2.9m total re-engineering programme onto leading edge platform, 300 employees, 4 million customers across centres in USA and UK. Led design workshops, vendor selection, final design, development, in Paris which affected 40,000 customers;
  • Strategic Planning and budgeting: Led strategic planning and budgeting process in 3 businesses over 18 years. delivering 1, 3 and 5-year plans;
  • Product Development: Led6 month project to develop and launch an online service. Developed product offering, managed system development in LA, defined procedures, service delivery and disaster recovery plan;
  • Direct Marketing: 24 yearsexperience managing multiple direct mail programmes from concepts through copy & creatives to production. Programmes ranged from 50,000 to 4.2 million items. Developed processes to handle response (up to 45,000 per week). Total volume 200 million;Product launch: Launched a retail insurance service with 11 country managers across Europe, S Africa and Far East. Product definition, training and delivery were handled over  12 months;
  • Service Excellence: 1997 won Management Today service excellence awards for Financial Services pushing First Direct into 2nd place; Achieved IiP accreditation and DTi recognition as a reference site;
  • Administrative and operations: 3 office relocations ranging from 2 people over 6 weeks to finding space, refitting and moving a 24/7 call centre to 12,000 sq. ft operation over 4 months. Developed call/contact centres for 3 businesses;
  • HR: 20+ years experience identifying and implementing structural changes in my teams. Appointed my own Board; Exceptional leadership record;
  • Social & Charity: 30 years experience organising balls, events and charity dinners for 24–500+ guests. Raised £48k on an annual charity dinner since 2006.

  • Leading a business mentoring, support and networking group for 69 business leaders and entrepreneurs. I organise and chair monthly peer-to-peer workshops for the group to resolve business issues, and enhance the performance and productivity of their businesses. The result has been some members have reporting a trebling of profits as a result of the actions taken.
  • I led and restructured team of 8 with £8m annual sales target in a software business.
  • I launched a new Internet-based business delivering web-based consumer services.
    • I raised funds (£90k) for test launch, and reached agreements for additional capital up to £700k.
    • I led a team that developed the systems, the product, the business plan and the sales leads.
    • I also found suppliers and prospects to develop the programme and run a test launch
  • I established a UK operation for a French company that sells magazine subscriptions through direct marketing campaigns endorsed by the major banks and credit cards.
    • I set up the premises, systems, people and a contact centre;
    • I signed up 28 clients, including American Express, M&S and Nectar with contract values over £15m and developed multiple direct mail programmes.
    • We delivered 40,000 customers and revenues of £2.5m.
  • I worked with the US based CEO to develop, deliver and sell a new online emergency assistance service for credit card holders in the UK and US via partnership agreements with online banks.
    • I designed and established processes, systems, business continuity plans, suppliers and facilities;
    • Developed a profitable business from the start;
    • Generated £1.5m cash in the first 7 months and negotiated contracts valued at more than £2m within the first year.­­­­­
  • Worked with Vistage (the World's largest network of CEO's) as a mentor, coach and confidante. I worked with over 25 Chief Executives across a diverse range of industries. These included: manufacturing, logistics, engineering, printing, packaging, and B2B and B2C services (in businesses up to £55m in sales). We resolved issues such as corporate structure, strategy and exit plans;
  • Sundry projects as a Board level consultant to SMEs for the development of their marketing plans, communication strategies, meeting facilitation and enhanced teamwork;
  • A speaker on "Vision, Values and Leadership" and a member of the judging panel for the Unisys Management Today National Service Excellence Awards;
  • A meeting facilitator;
  • I ran a 12-month project to research, develop, test and launch a card protection programme across 11 countries in Europe, South Africa and the Far East. I initiated, developed and directed business plans and sales training programmes for 25 managers;
  • Merged two UK divisions to create a £45m business.

  • Started business to provide emergency assistance services with 1st year sales of £150k rising to £30M with £6m EBITDA by year 13;
  • Created a household name, took 50% market share and won National Awards for Service Excellence;
  • Sold and managed contracts with values ranging from £10,000 to £15 million per annum;
  • Created the market for a totally new concept (card protection) and developed a market leading position in the face of fierce hostility from financial institutions;
  • Acquired a competitor in a £3 million deal – and handled the subsequent MMC enquiry;
  • Appointed my own Board and employed 200 people to deliver 24/7 services;
  • Led complex negotiations with the DTI and HMCE on Company status – and won, delivering an additional £1.25 million net margin p.a.;
  • Raised $23.5m for MBO attempt, but finally prepared the Company for sale in a $25m deal;
  • Set up call/contact centres managed 3 relocations, 2 changes of ownership and a £2.9m international re-engineering programme.
