I am a Longwood University Communication Studies degree with a concentration in Organizational Communication and Public Relations and a minor in Professional Writing. I graduated in May 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a wealth of fresh knowledge I can bring to your company. During my time at Longwood, I was a part of many organizations which have developed my knowledge of professional development and skills. Serving as President of Lambda Pi Eta, the Communication Studies Honors Society, it expanded my ability to handle difficult situations and work with all different types of people. As a member of Alpha Phi Omega (National Service Fraternity), Longwood Ambassadors, Mortar Board (National Senior Honors Society), and Longwood Women's Rugby I learned how to manage my time effectively while still making time for my job as a tutor at Greenwood Library's Writing Center. I have taken a variety of writing courses and am able to create documents that are both professional and have a sense of individuality at the same time. So if you are looking for someone who can work in a fast-paced environment, work well with others on projects, and someone with an upbeat personality and innovative style, I make a difference in your organization.
Jun 2010 - Aug 2010
I assisted the Program Coordinator in creating a logistical schedule for Scholars Weekend at the end of my internship with over 200 people in attendance. Biographies of scholars came through me from the writer to be edited and passed on to one more person for the final edit before being published in a book. I also did filing, paperwork, and inputting data into the company database. During the Scholars Weekend I coordinated the pick-up and drop off of over 75 scholars from BWI Airport to Johns Hopkins University where the conference took place. There were many other times I was put in charge of large groups throughout the weekend where I addressed issues effectively and were able to successfully complete all tasks.
Aug 2007 - May 2011
Bachelor of Arts
During my time in the Communication Studies Department, I have taken a variety of classes starting from the basic Public Speaking to the more complicated and specialized such as Crisis Communication and Persuasion Theory. I have also become a member of the National Communication Studies Honor Society during my Junior year. My concentration, Organizational Communication and Public Relations has taught me many things about Public Relations and has laid a great foundation in my skills as both a writer and a scholar of the field. I have learned how to write press releases, perform media scans, and give pitches as the most basic skills in my Public Relations class. The skills I have learned and acquired at Longwood are, hands down, ones I will utilize in the public relations field.
