Broadwing, based in Austin, started off as IXC Communications back in the mid '90s before the Internet boom. During this period, Cincinnati Bell (CBB) bought IXC and became Broadwing Inc. and "The World's Most Beautiful Network" was born. Broadwing would eventually be sold by Cincinnati Bell to Corvis, one of its optical suppliers, in 2003. Corvis kept Broadwing's name and logo and would look to capitalize on its brand and increase its size and presence as a player in the telecom space. Broadwing acquired Focal Communications in 2004 and grew its customer base and became cashflow positive and then was bought by Level 3 Communications (LVLT) in 2006.
