He is also assisting a number of start-up companies in registering IP, getting funded, and breaking into the real world of business.
Paul formerly served as Director of Umoja, an administrative reform initiative at the United Nations. Throughout the course of his career, Van Essche has accumulated many qualifications. He began as a Production Engineer with HPI S.A. in Switzerland, building and executing quality control systems in the manufacture of microprocessor-based equipment. He then joined the IT reseller Rentsch Captronix S.A. as Chief Technology Officer. In this position, Van Essche led the IT department, software development efforts, and corporate system operations. Van Essche also developed a solution for managing sales, production, services, stock, and orders, and established a consulting practice and software business unit for the firm, bringing in clients such as Rolex S.A. In 1992, Paul van Essche accepted a position with the Geneva-based inspection firm SGS S.A. as a Section Director in the Economic Affairs Division. Throughout the course of his career there, Van Essche undertook a number of responsibilities. He implemented import supervision business information systems for several countries in Africa, including Ghana, Mali, Cameroon, and Zambia. He also helped realign business strategy and service offerings and installed performance improvement systems in Asia, Latin America, and Africa. Additionally, Paul van Essche oversaw several teams that re-engineered businesses processes and operations and built new information systems. After six years with SGS, Paul van Essche became Associate Director of Consulting with Cambridge Technology Partners, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, based in Geneva, Switzerland. He provided management consulting for Philip Morris International Management S.A. and Givaudan S.A., global financial systems renewal for Nestlé S.A., and information systems strategy for the World Health Organization and International Labour Organization. After garnering enough experience, Paul van Essche began working as an Independent Management Consultant, a role in which he provided assistance with business metrics and performance enhancement to clients such as Swiss Re Ltd. and Citibank, N.A. After two years, Van Essche accepted a position as Managing Partner and co-owner of LeftBrain, Inc., providing consultancy services to companies in the private and public sectors.
