A veteran educator and administrator, Paul Turnbull brings more than 16 years of experience to his current position as the Superintendent of the Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District in Santa Ynez, California. In his leadership role with the district, Dr. Turnbull is responsible for overseeing the educational experience for more than 1,100 students at two high schools. A prominent figure in the California education field, Paul Turnbull focuses on developing innovative programs and educational technologies in the schools he serves. Paul Turnbull holds two Bachelor’s degrees from Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada, and a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Manitoba. He earned a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Victoria and completed his Ph.D. at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Prior to his current position with the Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District, Dr. Turnbull filled a number of key roles in the education field in both Canada and California, including serving as the Principal of Santa Barbara High School and Goleta Valley Junior High School.In addition to his work in the school district, Paul Turnbull is active in other aspects of California education and frequently lectures on educational issues at the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He serves on the Board of the Santa Barbara County SELPA Joint Powers Authority, is a Member of the University of California P-20 STEM Council, and spearheaded the creation of the Santa Ynez Valley Schools Conference. In 2007, Harvard University selected Dr. Turnbull as the subject of a case study, highlighting his efforts to improve faculty collaboration and develop new academic programs at Santa Barbara High School.A devoted husband and proud father of three, during his free time Paul Turnbull enjoys hiking, cycling, and reading.
