An alumnus of the Columbia University School of Nursing, Dr. Patricia De Sear enrolled in the Master’s degree program in Developmental Psychology at Columbia University Teachers College in 1986. After graduating, Dr. De Sear continued her studies through the university’s doctorate program in clinical psychology. After completing an externship at Elizabeth General Medical Center and an internship at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, as well as successfully defending her dissertation, Dr. Patricia De Sear received her PhD in 1995.
Dr. Patricia De Sear subsequently enrolled in the Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy at New York University in 1998. The program offers comprehensive training in a variety of psychoanalytic approaches and which is noted for its vibrant and pluralistic community of scholars. In 2007, Dr. De Sear received her Certificate in Psychoanalysis from the university.
Since 1998, Dr. Patricia De Sear has provided individual psychotherapy and psychoanalysis to adults, older adolescents, and seniors at her private practice in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Over the years, she has helped many individuals to move past their experiences of pain and trauma in order to live fuller and more engaged lives. With an awareness of human vulnerability and the close connection between mind and body, Dr. Patricia De Sear is experienced in treating individuals with anxiety, depression, and pain caused by loss, grief, trauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
