My name is Anthony James (AJ) Holt. I am 24 years old and as of May 2013 a graduate of Liberty University, with a Master of Arts degree in Religion, specializing in Discipleship Ministries. I am a fully ordained and licensed minister of the Gospel. I have been married to my wife Liberty for a wonderful 4 years and we recently celebrated the birth of our second child, Grayden James Holt, on July 17th, 2013. We also have a daughter, McKenna, who is a very talkative 2 year old. My wife and I share a heart for meeting teenage students where they are with the truth and love of the Gospel. Our desire is to find a home to plant roots and take an active part as the body of Christ in that location. Our heart is to see those lost, whether in or out of the church, found by the grace of Jesus and saved to walk in a new life with him.
I am seeking to be employed as a full time Youth Minister to middle, high, and/or college age students. The skills and life experiences provided me by God have allowed me a unique opportunity to relate to students in a way that presents the Gospel in an honest, yet non-threatening way. My goal is to see the generation touted as the "Last Christian Generation," saved by the Gospel and have their lives dramatically changed by the power of Jesus Christ.
I am prayerfully looking for a ministry that aligns with the Word of God and its truth first, and second will also respect my philosophy and principles of ministry. I earnestly desire to work for a church who is serious about investing in the youth of their members and their city, and not just babysitting them. A few items that I firmly believe are crucial to my success as a youth minister are a local body that believes in the potential of this generation and is willing to invest in them as well as leadership that believes that the most effective student ministry happens outside of the office, i.e. in the daily lives of students.
While these are not "non-negotiables" by any means, my ideal ministry position would consist of the ability to have room for creativity in programming, the ability to add future youth staff members, the ability to travel to a minimum of two conferences a year to recharge, the ability to take a minimum of two weeks vacation, a book stipend each year, at least one day off per week that is not a Sunday, and office hours that can give a little in the instance of a family emergency.
Oct 2011 - Present
As an Admissions Consultant, my responsibility is to reach out to students who are not yet part of the university and be an informative promoter of our organization.
May 2012 - Present
I am responsible for the planning, coordinating, and structuring of all events for grades 7-12 at First Baptist Church. This includes summer camp, mission trips, Wednesday evening large group services, Sunday evening small group services, Sunday morning Bible Study, and any other events throughout the year. I am also responsible for all budgeting within the Student Ministry, training and recruiting adult volunteers, and maintaining open communication between the Senior Pastor and myself regarding the health and well being of the student ministry.
Jun 2011 - Oct 2011
Special Project and Event Coordinator
I was afforded the opportunity to temporarily work directly with students who were traveling to Liberty's campus for one week intensive classes during the Intensive office's busiest time of the year. This provided me with an environment where I needed to make an impact in reaching out to each student with the minimum amount of time.
Aug 2009 - Aug 2011
Intern/Small Group Team Leader
At Powersource Middle School Ministries, I am responsible for a weekly small group of 15 6th-8th grade male teens, in addition to running the sound board on Sunday mornings for the services. I have spoken for the large group sessions on three separate occasions and I regularly teach for my small group.
Jun 2009 - Jun 2011
I have been employed with Liberty University for almost two years working to serve students in selecting classes and meeting graduation requirements. I have served the role of advocate, co-worker, encourager, and prayer partner with many of the students I have encountered over the years and look at the experience as a wonderful preparation provided by God for vocational ministry.
May 2008 - Sep 2008
Interim Youth Minister
Southwest Baptist was my home church since the age of 7. I worked there over the summer along with another intern as an Interim Youth Minister while they looked for a replacement youth pastor. I was responsible for collaborating with fellow churches on a city block party, organizing our summer camp itinerary and activities, as well as attending the weekly staff meeting to report on attendance, budgeting, future events, etc.
Sep 2011 - May 2013
Master of Arts in Religion
I recently graduated with my Master's degree specializing in Discipleship Ministries. I felt this specialization was important because of a need I see in the local church for explaining and practicing what following Jesus really means.
