Communication Studies

Longwood University

As a Communication Studies major at Longwood University, I had the opportunity to learn an abundant amount of information surrounding several different communication fields, such as; public relations, marketing, advertising, media relations, gender communication, internal and external communication, organizational communication, event planning, communication theory, public speaking and thesis research and writing, etc.

Writing press releases, media pitches, conducting media scans, and learning how to make agency profiles to create a lasting impression through brands and logos really prepared me for the working corporate communications world. I truly believe that the Communication Studies department at Longwood University prepared me to take on any communications related position that I may want in the future.

Advanced Diploma

Lloyd C. Bird High School

I graduated Lloyd C. Bird High School with a 3.7 GPA and was in the top 10% of my graduating class.

I was a proud member of many diverse organizations in High School; The National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Varsity Tennis Team, Marching Band, Color Guard, Skyhawk Dance Team, and I also acted in a short play for the Theatre Department.

I began studying French in middle school and continued my foreign language studies throughout my entire high school education and also took 4 semesters of French in college.

Throughout high school, I was very active in many different leadership roles.  I was Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Class Treasurer and was able to help plan our Junior-Senior prom.  I believe that this helped me learn the basics behind what it takes to be an event planner as well as a public relations expert and gave me a head start in some of my required major course work at Longwood University.

I have the basic knowledge of Photoshop C55.1 and will be taking several Photoshop courses this year to development my skills and proficiency of this graphic design program. I am excited and eager to learn more about photo and video editing within the next year and am learning new skills every day.
Managing Social Networking Sites
I was responsible for all of Columbia Gas of Virginia's social media relations and content posts on all of media relation accounts.  We used our social media outlets to engage our clients, community stakeholders, and customers to help them understand and promote the benefits of natural gas, update them with important company news, our community outreach endeavors, etc.   Throughout my internship at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, I was able to manage the Richmond Center's LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook accounts.  I posted statuses of their upcoming events, promoted advertising inside our building and promoted any new workshops or clients that needed more exposure on our social networking sites.
For my position at Columbia Gas I was responsible for taking company photographs and videos of all events, field operations activities, community outreach initiatives, inclusion and diversity efforts, etc. for internal and external use. I was the unofficial photographer for Columbia Gas of Virginia. Photography is definitely a passion of mine.   I gained experience throughout my time at the Greater Richmond Convention Center as their building and events photographer. Some of my photos have been used in promotional material as well as to help promote upcoming building events and encourage other companies to advertise throughout the building.    I have also completed multiple photography classes and worked in dark rooms to learn how to develop photographs with a developer, stop bath, fixer, and filters.
Microsoft Office Suite
Microsoft Office Word, Microsoft Office Powerpoint, Microsoft Office Excel, Microsoft Office Publisher are all operating systems that I am very comfortable using.  I have used Microsoft Office Suite throughout my entire education, since I first began writing.
Writing and Editing Press Releases
I first learned how to write and edit press releases in my public relations course in college and have been perfecting this skill ever since.   In my position at Columbia Gas of Virginia, I was responsible for researching stories, writing, editing, and posting most of our press releases for the corporate intranet portal and our company website.    During my internship at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, I was given the opportunity to write multiple press releases that were published in the company newsletter that was sent to over 3,000 of our community stakeholders, clients, and customers.
