ITAP Molecular Movie Intern

DePauw University Information Technology Associates Program

ITAP, Information Technology Associates Program, is one of five programs of distinction at DePauw University. This program focuses on Information Technology and its crucial role in the modern world. Last year, my first year as an ITAP intern, I was assigned with four different internship rotations and am trained with different softwares such as Dreamweaver, Final Cut Pro, Audacity, etc.

This year, I am working for Professor Dan Gurnon, Asistant Professor of Biochemistry Department. Using Chimera and Adobe Premier Pro, I make animated movies to show different protein trajectories, energy diagrams, protein structures, etc.

Piano Teacher

I have been teaching piano since 8th grade. My junior high school hired me to teach students from 2nd graders to seniors in high school. As I passed Grade 8 piano exam (British System) and Grade 5 Music of Theory (British System) , I was able to further my studies in piano. Since graduation, I continue to teach piano to local high school students as well as volunteer to play for a local church in Greencastle, IN (Cornerstone Baptist Church).

Math Tutor

I tutor high school students in Greencastle, IN.

Employee / English Teacher

Eastern English Institute

After my first year at DePauw University, I visited South Korea for the summer and worked as an English teacher at an English institute in Busan. I was privileged to work with over 40 elementary children from 2nd grade to 6th grade. This special experience taught me how to control young crowds and teach them not only through plain text books, but also through games and fun activities.

Note Taker

DePauw University Disability Services

DePauw University has a wonderful department for students with disabilities: DePauw University Disability Services. For a semester, I worked as a note taker for this department by attending a few extra classes to take notes for students with physical disabilities. Through this experience, I learned how to make documents presentable for others and easy to understand.

MA4344 Crystallography Research

Personal Statement

I am a biochemistry major graduating this May. I was born in South Korea but moved to Uganda, Africa, at the age of 13 when my parents decided to become missionaries. Africa has changed my life and I am passionate about its great potential. My prayer is that I will be able to aid Africa in any way possible.

My career goal is to become a biochemistry researcher. Since my sophomore year at DePauw, I have been working on Protein MA4344 crystallography research with professor Jacqueline Roberts (Associate Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry Department) as my student research project I also had a privilege to work as a student research at Medical University of South Carolina for summer 2012. This research focused on performing southern blots on brain cells to study the enhancement of cue-induced reinstatement of cocaine-seeking in rats by epinephrine at a molecular level.

I am also extremely interested in Information Technology and through Information Technology Associates Program at DePauw University, I have been blessed to work as an IT intern on campus.
