Peer Mentor

Office of First Year Experience
As a Peer Mentor, I gained experience in communication and interpersonal skills by working with Longwood parents and students in their transition into college life. I helped create my own lesson plans and activities for students by working with a Longwood faculty member to co-teach a course of first year students. Being in this role gave me a lot of experience working with a variety of people. Office of First Year Experience

Working as in intern in the Office of First Year Experience at Longwood University has allowed me to enhance my skills in communication, writing and the ability to develop relationships with a variety of people.  In my role, I was constantly in contact with many individuals including new students, families, faculty, and staff.  Being in contact with such a wide range of people has given me experience in cultivating relationships and helped better my interpersonal skills.  It was also my responsibility to create a seven-page newsletter for parents of Longwood students called The PIllar which can be found here:  I worked to organize and create the layout as well as write articles, proof read, edit, create article topics, and find authors for the articles.
