I took Applied Organizational Communications as one of my major courses. With this class I learned how to work cohesively with a team to conduct a Communications Audit for an organization on campus. With this audit I developed specific interviewing skills, interpreting interview data, and forming recommendations for the organization based on the data found.
Event Planning
I was the Event Planner for a class project that served the purpose of planning a fundraiser for a local organization. Through this class project I am now able to develop a time line for an event, secure a venue and coordinate with the venue manager(s), delegate roles to team members, and establish safety plans for the event.   For the second year in a row, I am the Activities Co-Chair for Relay for Life at Longwood University. In holding this position I have developed skills in organization, time management and allocation, the ability to conduct meetings with a sub-committee, and plan various events and entertainment for a 12 hour event. Some of which include booking a professional band as well as an opening band, and at least 6 other entertainers.   I am currently the Director of Social Enrichment and Risk Management of Alpha Delta Pi. Thus far this position has given me experience with planning a variety of different events over a 3 month time span. These events include Sisterhood events such as, cookouts with other organizations and our Spring Formal. The skills I have attained while planning these events are reserving a locations on campus, ordering food from the University's catering company, finding, scheduling, and reserving a venue for our Spring Formal, communicating with the venue manager for such things a food and beverages, and arranging transportation and security for the event.



Event Planning Position Description

The Washington Redskins are seeking qualified individuals to join the Corporate Hospitality Department as an Intern. The right individual will be able to work as part of a team or individually. Intern responsibilities include but are not limited to lead generation, data entry, internet research, client services, and event planning.


My name is Elizabeth Ries and I am a senior at Longwood University. My major is Communication Studies with a concentration in Organizational Communication and Public Relations. I am graduating in December 2011 and am currently seeking and internship position in Event Planning or Human Resources. I have taken many classes related to these two professions that have given me hands on experience with which I have been able to develop skills to enhance my education and further my career goals. Although I am going to school in Farmville, Virginia, my permanent address is in the Northern Virginia/Washington D.C. area and I am willing to commute. 


To obtain and internship position in an organizational climate that will allow my experience with event planning, human resources, public relations, and organizational communication to be applied to the position.
