Summary

Over the past few years, I have been reconsidering my career path.My creativity and true passions were not being fulfilled in the career path I had chosen. While I truly enjoyed the people I worked with, it was apparent that things weren’t going to change unless I changed them. The philosophy that there is no time like the present couldn’t have rung truer for me at that time.I took the plunge to move forward in my life, working to combine a happier work environment with more fulfilling time at home. Happiness can only create a more satisfying life.

One area that I knew was crucial to this change was to be able to become more involved with helping others in a way that directly impacted them.Volunteering in my son’s classroom has proven to be a great way to have a direct and positive impact on others. And in subtle ways, the children teach me new things about myself, too. It’s a wonderful symbiotic relationship.

I have spent time with people of assisted living facilities either with my therapy dog or playing music for the residents.  It's amazing to see the significant impact both the music and the dog have on some of them.  It may be the only time one of them may smile, or make a physical movement, or even speak.  For them, those visits mean a bit of normalcy.

As a doula, it is a humbling honor to be witness to such momentus event.  The women feel stronger, feel that they have control of their bodies, and ultimately, their birth experience.  Each birth has taught me something new about strength from within, about empowerment and what it means for each individual, about compassion and patience.

I believe that these elements can construct the rich life that I envision for myself, not only to be able to learn more about the people and things I enjoy, but to also share that knowledge with others.
